He's mad at Twitch's new (and very stupid, to be fair) Bits mechanic, and thinks he should punish GDQ and MSF because of it. He likes wielding his money like a weapon, I guess.

Twitch recently introduced a system where viewers can tip streamers with "bits" that are bought for real money and that streamers can exchange for real money. It costs pretty much the same amount in overhead as paypal, which is how most streamers receive tips already, it's just that the overhead is now going to Twitch instead of Paypal, which some people don't like because Twitch has some kind of lovely business practices.

But it's not like Paypal is a paragon of good business practices either so

You're probably remembering wrong, the game is pretty hard. Mario handles unlike anything you've seen in a platformer before, or like they said in the run "the physics are wonky".

But this is 100%, right? It's not the kind of SMB3 run that is like 10 minutes long.

They don't really seem to get that the issue was it was a ton of time to watch something very technical but not fast or exciting. Even if they cut the showcase the ninja tracks were obviously hard but just not that interesting to anyone who didn't play the game already.

Super Mario Maker is essentially just a let's play, but making a 3 man, two way relay race like they are tonight turns it into more of a hilarious speed run.

That's why I think a race was the way to go and it's a shame they couldn't get it. And yeah obviously 1 hour 30 minutes is way too long, I think 45 minutes of race and 15 minutes of showcase at the end (Not the beginning) was the way to go but... oh well. Trials is a pretty fun game and I recommend checking it out (on sale, avoid all the dlc) is really worth it, so I'm kinda sad that it got mishandled and everyone hates it.

twitch taking a cut of money that runners get is pretty stupid, especially so that the runners got that money for themselves already and twitch is instead shouting at viewers and going "No, don't donate, give us money instead!"

io_burn posted:

if someone liked a stream on twitch, they would donate via paypal or other means to the runner to show their appreciation and help them keep streaming. Twitch announced a new thing called "bits" where you could donate via twitch, using twitch chat, only now Twitch gets a cut of that money. it's worse for the streamer in every way except maybe ease of use for the viewer, but twitch can push it and bully the streamers if they want their money.

From what I understand, Twitch is currently making about as much money on the transaction as Paypal does when people donate that way so

But the quote from earlier would suggest they would still allow the use of PayPal. I would understand if Twitch suddenly banned all other donations than its own system (which it gets a cut from) which would be a drat lovely move.

Yeah I could see it being a race and having an actually interactive couch could have given it a much better look but you're never really going to change how slow paced the dude painfully crawling around on one wheel and positioning himself just so he can flip down onto a platform below or w/e it's just not interesting to someone who doesn't play the game. Anyone can understand a platformer and people making hard jumps fast, no one without experience playing the game is going to understand how he controls the bike physics to balance correctly or care and visually it just looks slow.

The levels demoed were just bad for a speedrunning exhibition
