Accuracy was worthwhile when PvP was a thing. It's near pointless in PvE. HP sponges don't dodge, and the few NPC ships that can dodge are frigates that go down to one or two beam hits anyway.

PVE ships have low defense so accuracy is wasted and the bonus crit from accuracy rollovers isn't significant. The defense is there to proc Reciprocity and hit 15 points assigned to the tac tree for the energy weapon crit bonus.

While we're on the subject of skills and such, what are the recommended specializations / specialization unlocks now? The only things I know are "get Pedal to the Metal" and "never use Command."
|
# ? Jul 8, 2016 22:39 |

Meh, I like command. Fun to drop in a big battle cruiser every 5 minutes to assist (one that actually stays forever). As someone with not a lot of starship traits I use what I've got.

Get Pedal to the Metal if you're flying a Pilot ship, but if you're in a whale and have enough good traits it's actually one of the better ones to drop. Basically if you're an Escort - Intel and Pilot. If you're in a Cruiser or Carrier - Intel and Strategist. Those are the big three Specs, though Commando is pretty good if you do shitloads of ground content. Command is worthless and I don't think anyone has given Temp Operative a real shot yet.

Temporal Agent has the thing that makes singularities home in on dudes, which is sort of tempting me to play this shitpile again. I probably would if they made it so you could use the grav well and tyken's rift doffs at the same time, for maximum singularity gangbang.

Psycho Landlord posted:Get Pedal to the Metal if you're flying a Pilot ship, but if you're in a whale and have enough good traits it's actually one of the better ones to drop Ok, I have never understood this recommendation. If anything it seems like you'd want it in a slow, fat piece of poo poo and want to avoid it in an escort. I fly a JHSS almost exclusively, because I'm really lazy, but it clearly fits that escort requirement. Lets take a look at my movement figures in a typical firefight... I just hopped into a quick fleet alert to take a screenshot: And then every 30 seconds when I pop off APO? Now explain to me how the gently caress you're supposed to keep that at full throttle and not cut off your own firing arcs constantly by wildly flying out of control with anything but a turret boat.

The Bug can turn well enough and has low enough inertia that even at that kind of speed it can stay in beam range and dive through groups effectively, and if you're only firing at one small target there's no reason to pop APO. Larger ships with greater inertia tend to drift out of fights if the player hits APO and isn't great at accounting for that inertia, unless they throttle down, which kills the Pedal bonus. Now, if you're using cannons on that Bug because of the trait, then that's different, but given how much we've been making GBS threads on cannons constantly I figure that's a little outside the scope of "hey new-ish guy here's where this trait is good."

Tests inconclusive. We require a larger focus group. Everyone buy bugs and Pilotscorts and flood the PvP queues.

As a note for folks who might actually be leveling TOS characters: you can buy manuals for the TOS boff skill versions and and buy TOS boffs in the old version of earth spacedock. You absolutely should send your character some cash and stock up on manuals since they're all bind to character, and once you get to the future you can't go back and buy them anymore.

g0del posted:It's good. If you want a more generalist/less glass-cannon skill set, drop the 6 ranks in admiral tactical and fill out some of the science/eng commander level skills - won't affect your DPS much, and will increase survival. g0del posted:If you're going to add it to the article, I guess I should explain my reasoning. You drop the tac readiness skills because they're a trap - even fully filled out they don't drop recharge time low enough to be useful. You still need the same doffs/traits/A2B/whatever to get to the global cooldown with or without them. You drop the coordination protocols because pets got heavily nerfed awhile back, and so adding a bit more damage/survivability to them doesn't help that much. The only reason to spend those 6 points is to unlock the tac ultimate, but the tac ultimate is a clicky power with a long cooldown. Useful against gates in ISA and the crystalline entity, but not generally useful for normal play. Quoting all of this to assure you that I'll add it to the page once I get back from the shops. Potential BFF that is a good point on Reciprocity - I don't have it and don't think of it much.

Temporal probe psa: they show up as neutral NPCs on your minimap, out to like 85 meters or so. Check that when searching for them. You now have no excuse for bitching about the random placement.

I'm going to avoid spending any dil or marks on reputation gear until I finish the unlock to get automatic mk xiii gear. Instead, in the meantime, I'm gonna use both quantum phase sets once I can get them-- those should adequately on a Vengeance, especially once upgraded. After that, iconian set as usual, etc. I will drop some dosh on fleet phaser consoles and a fleet warp core though. Gotta have amp and crit, especially on a fed.

You know how the description of the TOS ships says that you can use their skins on the 26th century versions? It also works the other way around - you can use the 26th century skins on the TOS ships while leveling.

Some poor bastard accidentally sold his Konnie for 32.9 million instead of 329 Million. Sadly, I wasn't the one who grabbed it. People really need to learn to count their zeroes. (also clicking off the exchange screen adds commas to the number)

That sort of thing happens occasionally but we're hearing about it a lot more recently. Probably someone drunk because that's how I did it when I sold a tholian orb weaver a few years back for some joke price on the exchange.

To the person who was trying to transfer UI settings using console commands I have no idea if this will solve your problem, but when I did it the other day I used the menu options and they worked. Try escape - options - HUD and using those buttons right down the bottom to save UI on your main and load UI on your temporal agent alt. It worked for me the other day, hope it works for you

Thanks, will give it a shot when I get home. For those catching up, I did a reinstall around a month or so before AoY hit and amazingly the game kept the spacebar macros on all of my characters, even without the .txt file saved to the install folder. On my new character though I am totally unable to set it up. I've followed the wiki guide from scratch and it just fails to work.

Good news! The TOS style rubber mask gorn head is a new model and separate from the old horrible launch gorn model, so you're still unique there. Well not that unique since my oldest klank is one too but hey.

My loose understanding is you have to finish the 23rd century arc with the new character (before some nebulous future date) to get the stuff. I started last night and despite the above key bind issue it's going pretty fast. I hate everything on the ground in the game but you're so early level its dead simple.
