My father in law surprised me and my wife by saying that basically pedophilia is alright as long as you don't act on it. edit: not sure how we got on this CP tangent.

But this is still a really funny article: http://www.polygon.com/2016/7/2/12087460/kickstarter-declines-2016-fundingquote:Crowdfunding for video games on Kickstarter is down sharply for the first six months of 2016 compared with the same period in 2015, suggesting that roughly the same number of video games projects are successfully backed, but at much lower amounts.

I guess the constant known distance to the paper would allow the thing to calculate the font size, which would be more challenging with a smartphone. Anyone who needs this (why? to fake documents?) could save themselves having a dumb one-use gadget and use http://www.myfonts.com/WhatTheFont/ like a normal person.

If I've ever needed to find out what font was used in signage like the U.S. Highway system or the London Underground, I've always typed "font used by" in Google and usually get some font nerd or even the designer spergin' about the font.

Tea Party activist Norm Novitsky has been working on a crowdfunded movie about the U.S. Constitution starring Bobby Deen (son of Paula Deen) called In Search of Liberty for a while now. He tried to crowdfund it via Kickstarter earlier this year but they cancelled the project on him so he created his own crowdfunding site and managed to get the movie funded thanks to some "super-patriot investors". Novitsky set up shop in Georgia to take advantage of the $300,000 of tax rebates they offer filmmakers and he hired most of the film crew from the Savannah College of Art and Design, signing them on as independent contractors and not employees to avoid paying payroll tax and then paying them less than minimum wage with no overtime. The living conditions were also incredibly lovely and the crew were treated like crap. So the crew unionized and when the film company refused to meet with the union the crew walked off the job. quote:That Monday was a holiday, but the union set about to make sure the company wouldn’t be able to find “scabs” to replace the striking students. After word came back to organizers the company was looking for replacements, they told local IATSE members to go ahead and accept the jobs — with the understanding they would not show up for work. http://deadline.com/2016/07/in-search-of-liberty-constitution-movie-shut-down-crew-joins-union-iatse-1201784410/

Really bad. Really really bad. I can't imagine any situation where you'd need to measure something were being off by a centimeter or two would be acceptable. Measuring for curtains maybe, but then when you actually install them you'd need a real tap measure so pfft.

Yeah, like there's a reason tape measures have metal tapes. Then seamstress tapes handle flexible stuff. Then there's laser & wheel measurement tools out there too, and they'll have greater accuracy too. Literally the only reason you'd get this is to put a few measurement styles in a single tool, but it's inaccurate so you still need to double check.

Miniature-based games usually operate on grids or hexes anyway, so measurement isn't an issue.
