Watch the shadow right before it hits the ground and you can see it rotate. There's really no other way for a plane to come straight down with that velocity, since it's literally falling out of the sky.

Just google "Houston plane hits parked car." People reported it being in a flat spin.

Ah OK. That little turn is what was making me think it had hit something. My mind was imagining a flat spin sort of looking like a frisbie falling.

What do you even do as a pilot to pull out of one of those? Just try to get the nose down? Seems like something that would be super hard to do if you're flying low.

That's pretty much the only choice, but even then it's a crapshoot. The reason flat spins are so dangerous is that there's no airflow going over the control surfaces (planes aren't meant to travel belly-first), so most attempts to yank on the controls simply won't do anything. There is some air going across the center of the fuselage, but it's not necessarily enough to force the elevators in the tail to tilt the plane downward. Some have said that the best recourse is to jam the throttle to full as you pitch down, hoping that the airflow from a spinning propeller (note: cannot be performed in a jet) will be enough to let you tilt down.

It's mostly down to luck. You want the spin to be unstable, so the plane will naturally tilt down enough to get some airflow over the control surfaces and let you pull out of it. If you don't have that luck, either jump out or make peace.

yeah, nose down, then counter it with proper rudder use. and it's one of the reason why it's safer to keep a good distance between yourself and the ground, to give you time in case of emergencies.
Some planes are certified for spin training and it's pretty fun, but nothing like in that video.

If you're flying low, you're dead. Otherwise, you do exactly what the guy in the above video did... dive and try to pull out into a glide and the smoothest crash landing you can manage.

Depending on the plane you might not even be able to do that. Old WW1/2 planes had to have anti-spin ballast and parachutes that could be ejected to stop a spin. It looks like what happened, though, was that they went into a spin shortly after takeoff, so they wouldn't have the velocity or height to pull out of it. Small mercy that they landed on an empty car.

Yeah, I think its wing hit that pole or whatever's shadow is in the lower left.

Also interesting that the parachute deployment rocket fires right at the point of impact, but the chute doesn't deploy.

They were on approach, not takeoff:

Yeah, I think its wing hit that pole or whatever's shadow is in the lower left.

It's kind of a sad story. The pilot had tried to land 3 times, and kept getting waved off by ATC to let commercial jets land, and after the last failed approach the controller had her turn downwind for another base, and the wind speed was about 15 knots and she was climbing out at only about 10 knots over stall speed, so when she turned downwind the aircraft was below stall speed and spun (this is the theory, the full report is not out yet as this was fairly recent).

If the ATC had just had one of the commercial planes go around since she was first in line, it wouldn't have happened. Hindsight is 20/20 of course, and I'm sure at the time they were doing the best that they could do.

Here is the entire ATC audio, and you can hear how many different instructions they kept giving her, and by the end she was struggling to get properly lined up, and was probably just overwhelmed and made the turn without considering the wind and... welp.
