Serious question time. Is it okay, morally or legally, to continue to sell in-game assets if they know they can't satisfactorily complete the game with what they have in their coffers now? Like if they said it could be completed, realized that it can't without a poo poo-ton more money, and kept up with the pretense that everything is okay while knowing that if funding stopped nobody would get what they paid for?


Like pretend I want to build a hot dog stand. I don't have the 1 million I estimate I need so I go to Kickstarter. I get my million dollars and keep pre-selling hot dogs and hot dog variants as I work towards completion of my hot dog stand. One day I realize that through my own incompetence I will run out of money before the hot dog stand is completed. Can I keep preselling hot dogs if I know that there is the possibility that I won't sell enough to see the project through to the end so that everybody get their preorders? Am I acting in bad faith if I say that I have enough money to finish the hot dog stand but will gladly take more of your pre-order money?

poo poo, that's what I'm going to do. Let's say this BOMB-rear end spaceship game comes out on Dec 31, 2016. And it's got loads of fidelity/verisimilitude. You can bet your own crossed arms and pursed lips that my filthy goon rear end is going to be immediately plugging in my Warthog and space truckin' PALLETS of donuts, prosthetic eyes for the morbidly obese, and tanned scrote hides all over the galaxy. I'm gonna have a blast. Me and Luke Starwalker are gonna buzz the fuckin tower in my Level 1 barge, going speed whatever.

Literally anyone can hop in and do the same poo poo. And from the looks of things, it's gonna get real griefy. Spending several thousand dollars won't give you immunity and won't buy the fantasy that everyone here would actually love to see realized. I'm not saying that poo poo to encourage you, really I'm not. Nor am I honestly trying to get your goat. I don't want you to get out, or to hurt yourself, I just want you it to stick in your head that refunds are an option. It's there. It's an actual reality.
