That would only make sense if that thing had the innards of a 2DS, which isn't exactly impossible now that I think about it. They seem to have made all their VC emulators run only on a specific architecture with the caveat that they have had to recode the whole thing every time there was a new console (3DS, Wii, Wii U) from what I heard.

Not imposible either. I hope someone opens it up soon to give an overview of what hardware it's using. I wonder if the controller has a quality build. I nearly bought a 8Bitdo NES controller once and now I'm thinking how they compare. That one could be used for Wii VC stuff too, IIRC.

I thought I saw those distinctive controller ports somewhere, and then I remembered: It's the Wii remote port. You can connect the NES controller to the Wiimote for usage in Wii (U) VC games. Clever.

It's almost certainly a Wii's guts. They got the console down to a really cheap iteration with the Wii Mini in Canada, plus it has most ( if not all) those games on the WiiVC.

The real blindingly-obvious clue is the controller sockets are Wiimote ones. Compatible with Wii Classic Controllers, no less.

They did have an upgrade discount in Japan but it was not nearly as generous as the other platforms. I don't know if they're doing it overseas or how much it'll be.

I don't think the weird upscaling is present on Wii U but I honestly can't remember.

If I was only going to get one, Wii U Hyrule Warriors or New 3DS Hyrule Warriors? Including all the DLC that's come out, is there roughly the same amount of content on both, or does the newer 3DS version have more characters/etc?

Takoluka

3DS has more characters and scenarios, more weapons and items, and better balance.
Wii U looks better, runs faster, and has co-op play.

Lemon-Lime
Aug 6, 2009
New 3DS version has:
worse graphics (duh)
a more consistant framerate
slightly lower enemy density (but still enough to feel good)
no co-op, but the ability to give orders to and swap between generals on the field during missions
fairy raising and dress-up
all of the WiiU DLC baked in
a season pass that gives you new adventure maps on top of new characters and weapons

WiiU version has:
better graphics, including animations/effects that are missing from Legends (i.e. boss weak point attack animations, the Summon Gate summons actual creatures instead of translucent shapes)
a framerate that is generally higher, but occasionally dips lower
co-op
two season passes (a WiiU one that puts it on content parity with Legends, and a second one that gives you the new characters/weapons/costumes in the Legends season pass, but not the maps)

Unless you're super attached to playing the game on a big screen or to co-op, buy Legends.

EU only; you'll note that it's only in the NoE press release.

This has been going on for a while, removing chargers from electronics packaging that is. The idea is since nowadays everything uses mostly the same chargers anyway, why would you waste materials making useless redundant ones? Of course, there's no noticeable decrease in price compared to other regions, but hopefully some plastic is saved to make something maybe a bit more useful.

I'm completely OK with it, I would have thrown those chargers into some corner of a closet anyway, to be never used. If you really need one they aren't very expensive.

I think this new NES thing is a cute novelty item meant for people to stuff in stockings at Christmas, and it should serve that function pretty well. It'll probably find a nice niche with older folks who haven't kept up with modern consoles but are looking for a little nostalgia.

For me the big "if" is, how will the games look? NES games on Wii U Virtual Console are not displayed well at all, and if this device uses the same scaling algorithm as that does, no thanks.

It'd be nice if this thing could connect to the eShop and sync with your existing NES VC collection, and also I'd like to ride on a majestic pegasus.
