Hmm not sure $173 is enough for a Michelin starred restaurant in Chicago though.

Though I've posted in this thread about guys who still managed to get themselves in trouble by taking advantage of the leniency.

That's probably what happened because when I had government per diem, the only place I recall hitting over $100 was Puerto Rico, where everything is expensive.

I'm at also at $75 per day and the minute it hits 5pm I'm crawling through TripAdvisor or Yelp. Supposedly, this is suppose to get me fat but until that happens I'm continuing to eat like a king.

Actuals is the way to go other than the hassle of tracking actuals - provided your manager/approver is not a huge rear end in a top hat.

KYOON GRIFFEY JR posted:You're Schengen still for whatever your first Aer Lingus leg is, so it's essentially a domestic flight. It's a standard Euro airport with set counter numbers that you can find for checkin based on a large video board. Everything is centralized in a plaza / mall area that is the main entrance to the airport regardless of destination, then after that there are three departure halls. The video board will show which one you are supposed to go to. Thanks, never really figured that would be a domestic flight but it makes sense. AMS-DUB-ORD is the route. I'm traveling with my parents and my old man is the super nervous get to the airport three hours before boarding type, so I think I'll shoot for getting there about two hours early for a bit of a compromise and to bang down a few last delicious coffees.

The airport is pretty nice and has a lot of spots to hang out (and shopping if you like shopping) both before and after the departures hall/security checkpoints so it's not the end of the world to go early.

$1200 a week which is actually ridiculous for the Bay Area, so I rented an apartment. I have to eat the costs if I go over, but I get to pocket what I don't spend, so I'm fine with my west San Jose shithole because Marriotts aren't affordable.

$50 for me, but can be more depending on the city. Boston is $65, for instance. The problem is the hotels. I negotiated a rate of $199 with the Marriott sales manager to stay in the Chelmsford Courtyard, but my VP of finance wasn't having any of it. I'm stuck in a $99/night Radisson and it's TERRIBLE. When's the last time you slept in a full bed in a hotel room? I'm 6'3", damnit! Also, they negotiated free breakfast, which is the worst food I've ever had in a hotel, ever. But I'm stuck eating it because they're going to deduct $10/day out of my per diem for it.

Isn't Raddison suppose to be an upscale hotel? Either way I've been in a few but it's pretty 50/50 quality wise.

I guess you can say they are upscale? When people mention upscale I think of Grand Hyatt/Four Seasons/Peninsula/Mandarin/Ritz Carlton. Shangri-la and the actual Marriott are barely cutting it - they are more for people having affairs

This Radisson sure as hell isn't. It smells like mildew in here and the blackout curtains don't close more than half way because they were installed incorrectly. Also, there is no screen in the window.

Send mail to the Radisson website. Radisson is upscale compared to hotels that have outdoor hallways and their prices on the sign viewable from the interstate. That's about it.

Stayed at the Le Meridien Charlotte this week, for a 4star hotel it just reminded me of a crappy Aloft hotel... The employees there weren't the greatest, and my phone in the room didn't work and I told them this multiple times and they said they would fix it and never came up. Will be trying the Westin down here next time, at least it is a cool looking building:

Half the time, they give me the go green points and a $5 voucher, so they're good in my book. The internet always works well compared to embassy suites/any Hilton property, where it never works at all. I get GSA per diem too, so usually about $59-$64/night, but I try to minimize what I spend and the rest is profit. I clear an extra $800-$1000/ month from not indulging on the road. Unfortunately, that all goes to pay my ridiculous student loan debt

They (lightly) refurbed it and split it into a Sheraton and a Le Merdien. Sadly, neither are really up to par. I live in CLT now but when I traveled here for work before we moved I always stayed at the Aloft uptown or the Ritz when my corporate rate was available. Same rates and a much better hotel overall. The Westin is very nice but it is pricey most of the time.

The Marriott in downtown CLT is apparently a flagship and all the rooms were redone recently to a new prototype that has cool furniture and modern conveniences (mostly expanded power/usb plugs everywhere). I hope they roll some of those changes out to some of the other busted ones I stay at across the country.

I've had folks on my staff pay outrageous prices at less than awesome hotels simply because that was all that was left when we were booking two weeks out.

I believe I once stayed at the Sheraton in CLT and was told the gym was closed on Sundays. As only a contrarian, smug 22 year old could ask: "Is that a Jesus thing?" The front desk person was not amused.
