It is worth mentioning that there's two different teams working on Warhammer right now. You have the main team, who spent the last couple of years making Warhammer and have already moved on to the next game in the trilogy, and you have the "extra content team" who are like 10 guys under Jack Lusted working exclusively on dlc.

The extra content team did all the Atilla dlcs and a lot of those were actually pretty impressive, but it's definitely a much smaller team who are more limited in what they can do.

I think a lot of people are underestimating how much work there is in the current Beastman roster. In terms of unit models they're adding Ungors, Gors, Bestigors, Centigors, Minotaurs, Cygors and Razorgors. Compare to the Empire which has Humans, Horses, Demigryphs, Pegasi and Griffins + Machines or Dwarfs who are Dwarfs + Machines.

I'm disappointed at the missing Beastman units but considering that they would each require a new model (Tuskgor, Harpy, Ghorgon, Jabberslythe) each it's not surprising they had to leave some out. I just hope they make it in later installments.

You really can't simplify large groups of units as "machines". The only units that could share models are the dwarven and human cannons, Luminarchs/Steamtanks/loving mortars and so on still requires a full amount of work.

e; if you are doing that so can you throw horses/pegasi/gryphons/demigryphs into one group called mounts as well and say that beastmen has so much more work put into them than humans!

This is correct, but given the dramatically different body types of every different type of Beastman there's still a titanic amount of work put into them. Basically only Gors and Bestigors will be able to share animation skeletons, as opposed to every human or every dwarf being able to share.

I wouldn't bother turning the DLC over in your hands and agonizing over the purchase, it's pretty cheap and only a faction DLC at the end of the day. I pre-ordered because I already know I like this game and the more stuff in it the merrier it will be, even if Beastmen aren't specifically my favs.

I guess all the new factions will be added as opponents in the grand campaign for people who don't buy them anyway? Within each individual installment of the series.

So I guess I am still a bit bad at this game, but I just (barely) survived the first onslaught of chaos warriors as the Empire. They have basically razed almost all cities they found on the northern shores of the old world and completely obliterated Kislev. The worst problem is that they have managed to poo poo corruption all over my lands and I'm not sure what to do! I have about 34% percent chaos corruption in my provinces which is rising 1-2%, and in some cases due to buildings and commandments? What is an emperor to do? Is this happening because I don't have any witch hunters yet? I found that I have a hard time getting rid of any chaos heroes spreading corruption.

Yeah, they did a little quick answer to some questions regarding the Beastman DLC and said that's how it would work. The amount of community outreach coming from CA regarding this is what fills me with confidence they can do this well.

Train warrior priests, build temples of Sigmar, maybe get the traits that reduce corruption on your heroes and generals if you think you can afford to invest in that, assassinate chaos heroes. Witch hunters and the wizard heroes also cleanse corruption. Theres a province commandment that reduces it as well.

It sounds like you did fine if Chaos only razed the northern shores and Kislev, that's pretty normal. Honestly I don't worry about them until they show up in Talbecheim or whatever it's called. The one next to Grunberg/your main province.

If you can keep public order under control (say, with the appropriate buildings), you don't need to worry about corruption. I think Temples of Sigmar are good for province capitals since if upgraded they affect multiple provinces, and witch hunters rule... But taprooms can also be quite efficient.

For Gelt, basically get a magic-buffing mod of your choice, since Metal is quite possibly the weakest lore in the base game. I'm running Molay's, and it turned Gelt into a legitimately fearsome powerhouse who can actually rival Karl Franz in terms of effectiveness. Without a mod, Final Transmutation seems like the all-around most useful spell available to him, and Transmutation of Lead seems alright as well. As for the celestial wizard, I think Chain Lightning is one of the best vortex spells even in vanilla. The smaller thunderbolt also does a decent amount of damage on the cheap.

The reason that I dislike it is because as it is, it seems to deal damage to exactly one poor motherfucker that was annoying you, so unless you pinpoint Archaon himself, it's really not worthwhile.

I'm thinking of EU4, actually. You add this poo poo in there and add the mechanics that gently caress up the game but if you want to use them yourself, hand the money over. Hell, sometimes it would be stuff that if you didn't buy it, the game would be actually broken. I'm confident that will happen here too and it shouldn't be supported.

Oh I see! This must be the Bad Opinion Zone!
The danger of breaking the game with a subsequent patch is a rather separate thing from selling DLC that lets you play as Beastmen. If the game is 'actually broken' by new added mechanics in the future, how will it be fixed by buying the Beastmen DLC or any such faction DLC?

Any game that is supported runs the risk of patching and updates making the game less fun, as well, as more fun. If your argument is that there could be a strategy of doing this then selling DLC to unfuck the game, then I'd point out that this is no different from doing this, then selling a big expansion pack to unfuck the game, or selling a full price sequel that isn't hosed up, or selling an entirely new separate game.
Faction DLC, being inherently limited in scope, would actually be less likely to be consistent with this strategy.

There's also the faint whiff of mobile goalposts here. You're talking about 'releasing incomplete games'. But the game *is* fun on release? It's not a buggy broken mess that we're hoping for a patch or expansion to make fun? The only sense Total Warhammer is incomplete is that okay, it doesn't implement all the races and maps of the Warhammer universe. But realistically, if they didn't do this phased strategy of gradually adding races, the alternative scenario is that either the less well known races will never be implemented, or the game would just be horribly delayed, out of scope, and maybe never released at all.

How are people building up their cities for Empire? It seems really hard to get all the good recruitment chains built up in your regions. Tons of cross chain requirements and capital only buildings. I never unlocked Reiksguard in a single province and didn't get steam tanks until halfway through the chaos invasion. It was basically spamming honest steel line infantry and felt very unsatisfying compared to playing Vampire Counts or Dwarves.

Is there a mod that makes the AI more likely to build high tier units? Even at turn 100+ on very hard so do I still mostly get armies filled with low tier stuff which isn't very exciting at that point. I guess a part of the problem is that the AI will keep their units around forever until they get wiped?

I've done an Empire campaign three times because they're easily my favourite. Every time, I've built Reikland pretty much the same way.

Altdorf:
Colleges of Magic
Engineer's Workshop
Armoury
Port
Clay chain (I like trade!)

Put the barracks in one of the minor settlements, and you can put a Reiksfort in a minor settlement too. This lets you train every troop type except the cavalry line in Reikland; if you go for a stable instead of the clay building in Altdorf, you can get all that in Reikland too.

The reason I've tended not to put stables in Reikland is that if you take Middenland, that province is ideal for cavalry training. Put stables in Middenheim, the Knights of the Panther chapterhouse in Carroburg, and a Reiksfort in the other settlement whose name I forget. Lots of high-rank cavalry of all kinds of train there, then. If you don't take Middenland early-ish, then you can still build up your new province (as long as it's not Marienburg) to be a cavalry production area. Nuln gives factionwide artillery bonuses but none for that specific province, so you have no reason to put your gunsmith/engineer's workshop in that city rather than Altdorf. The province Nuln is in - Wissenland - also has bonuses to swordsmen and greatswords so you can get some value out of having an armoury there for infantry, too, not just for cavalry. You won't get Middenland's experience bonuses but you can still train your demigryphs there.

If you do this you can get Steam Tanks by around turn 80-90, I think. And you can get Reiksguard to augment your foot troops and artillery pretty quickly.
