I also wrote to Kevin Frank in praise of HLTS. I got a little e/n in my email, and told him how, as a former addict who once worked in a thrift store and grew up around hypocritical Christians, the strip always spoke to me. I said I hoped it ended with Dag finally getting a bit of luck (or blessings) to help turn his life around, like going to college on a scholarship or getting a sweet new job, as he's earned it. He replied: vague SPOILERS "Wish you had written me earlier, I could have stolen some good ideas from you. Like having Dag win a scholarship, that's great! Sorry to say there's no happy ending like that in store (in the store). And it's too late to change now." Awww. Get the Kleenex ready for that July 31st strip, I guess.

She’s got a blind spot, and her penchant for being reckless could soon leave her uh……“wreck-less”, nevermore. At the speed she’s going, she could even get detoured from that “great big freeway to LA”, and end up securing pole position in some dive, in the ‘smoke filled’ part of town. quote:Ahhh Tifffany!! For those who get turned on by cartoon characters here she is. It shows you though, Luann gets blasted for being ditzy, but she is still the soul and center of the strip, and her sensibilities, she learned from her very solid parents, are the soul of the strip as well. Tiffany had some issues with her parents, which might be a metaphor for how she is, and how Shannon could be given her parenting situation. But one thing about the strip is that Greg lets people grow, so Tiffany has shown some good points lately, helped by Gunther, of all people, but she is unrepentant in being sultry and attention-getting. Trufan, and proud of it out for now (lol). quote:Fiendly Neighbourhood Terrorist (Justice For Michael_wme!) GoComics PRO Member said, about 21 hours ago quote:“Spin Doctor” fort knox

Wanamingo posted:Pluggers From Comics Curmudgeon: quote:I’ll say this for today’s Pluggers: it’s managed, without having heard of any of the bands, to put together an actually realistic summer concert series lineup, in the sense that it runs the gamut from relatively popular, relatively current acts (Animal Collective) through jam bands that had a minor mainstream breakthrough years ago but have been touring the festival circuit more or less nonstop both before and since (Rusted Root) to bands that were popular in the early ’90s and subsequently broke up but then a subset of the original members gained legal control of the band’s name and now are cashing in with a bunch of new people (Color Me Badd). We’ve rounded out the list with two separate bands who were apparently mistaken for one (Slightly Stoopid and SOJA, who are touring together this summer) and, apparently, just to stick it to know-it-alls like me, the truly obscure “Kongas,” which as near as I can tell was the name under which Marc Cerrone, an “Italofrench disco drummer, composer, record producer and creator of major concert shows,” released a couple of albums in the late ’70s. I guess it’s probably more likely that this is a mistake for Kongos, a band that’s in that first category with Animal Collective, but I want to believe that we’re talking Italofrench disco drummer here.

I can't tell if this strip is meant as Crankshaft being an rear end in a top hat as usual or it's supposed to be one of his deep cultural observations we're supposed to agree with.
