Controversial opinion: These don't actually look that good. It's the same mistake a lot of those "retro pixel art" Kickstarters make, where they have a jillion similar colors rather than sticking to a retro palette (which was imposed originally from system limitations but is also a good way for things to remain visually distinct) and manage to end up with tiny things that nonetheless look cluttered.

I'd agree with you if you qualified the statement more. What you say is true of some of them but not most. DRK and MCH in particular stand out as being blobs of nonsense.

It bothers me when people try to translate models really literally to sprites without understanding that sprites have to be a lot simpler.

The enemy of my enemy is my enemy.
Yeah, the best sprites out of that lot are the Monk, Black Mage, White Mage and Ninja.

Honorable Mentiones to PLD and WAR. Everything else is a mess. The primary problem is them trying to incorporate the iconic weapons for all of the classes onto the sprites pose. There's a reason you only show those when you need to (visual busyness is the biggest one.)

I really love the "protect the suicidal NPC" quests. Sure, I have resurrection and this guy refuses to move out of the giant glowing murder circles, but okay, if he falls down I have to restart.

There's an NPC healer but he's just as stupid at healing as the dead guy is at not standing in enemy attacks.

If NPCs are dying in solo instances, than it's because you're doing something wrong, not them. They're more than tough enough to survive all the hits thrown at them if you're doing your own job properly (that being killing things generally, unless it's a healer class quest).

On the other hand, if you're doing the combat leve quests that have npc escorts, either don't because they're terrible, or kill everything that starts in the way and then keep beckoning them towards the goal while ignoring the rest of the enemies that spawn.

It's the story quest with Wilred.

Those sprites are kind of mess, particularly in the hands and torsos. Trying to replicate the finer details of the iconic armor sets doesn't really work. I am, however, surprised the WHM is not perfect, as it's basically the same design they've used for thirty years.

FactsAreUseless

I switched my carbuncle to DPS and just focused on using my single healing ability, Physick, to keep people alive, since the NPC healer is useless. It was kind of a trainwreck but we won eventually.

Ok in story instances like that, there's literally only one thing you're ever expected to do: Kill things. Generally what you're supposed to kill is fairly obvious, that being the enemies that aggro onto you instead of any of the npcs in the instance. As long as you're not super slow doing that or accidentally aggroing enemies that are supposed to be fighting the npcs and not you, you'll win without issue.

Yeah, it's worth noting that unless your solo instance is specifically a class/job quest for a tank or healer, you will never once be expected to contribute anything aside from a. kill the things at something vaguely resembling a decent clip, and b. don't get yourself killed.

All the main story solo instances are designed such that anyone can beat them on any job, and therefore they feature enemies that a squishy caster can survive (assuming it's the mobs that are meant to be hitting you in the first place), with low enough health pools that a tank or healer can still bump them off at a reasonable pace.

For the tank/healer job quests' solo instances, you might need to actually do some tanking or healing, but for everything else you shouldn't need to, just kill the poo poo you're supposed to be killing and don't stand in the bad.

did you pick it up? If so, it's in your journal. Just press J to open it, and look for the meteor icon. If not, then it should be where your last one ended. If you don't remember where that is, you can look up your completed quests in your journal.

Both Arcanist classes do JoJo poses when casting their offense spells, plus Scholar has Eos and Selene as was mentioned. Using improbable weapons should probably also help them climb the list.

White Mage should probably be way the hell down near the bottom, they're not very anime at all.

I'd be willing to bet this is more due to backend limitations (i.e., the reason the armoire has such a restricted set of items).
