Yah so semi recap here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shooting_of_Alton_Sterling Alton Sterling was shot while on the ground. He may or may not of had his hands in his pockets. Someone said he had a gun, officers expected him to have a gun, he got shot several times. This comes right after several other high profile shootings of black people by cops around the country so black people are upset. During their protests, cops used good ol southern tactics which included a massive show of force, grabbing the organizers and detaining them, and beating some people to where their face swelled up pretty bad. Whether they had good reason to do this or not, part of the protest is about police using excessive force for any situation and I am pretty sure Louisiana may not be good at this regard but I don't really know. Either way, that seems to be the feeling put out by protesters. So protesters protested excessive use of police officers, some officers in turn use more excessive force, and then 3 or 4 cops just got killed and a few more injured via gunfire. I am probably missing a few more minor events here.

IIRC one of those guys was grabbed from a protest for standing in a street when all video I've seen is him not standing in the street. Other reports said cops had already told him that he had been pointed out as an organizer and the cops were pretty much ready to get him.
