I can host a giveaway on the 21st, the same date Cassandra intended to hold his. I'll have to do it in the evening, like 6:30 CDT, but I'm happy to keep Yelchin's memory alive. Will also use the event to promote the "Association for Women in Science", something else Cassandra would have wanted, I'm sure.

The easy way to be space competent all the way through to endgame stuff is basically "use all beams, use Fire At Will all the time, get gear that buffs beams, put all skill points into crits and damage". Skillz 4 Goons has some space builds with more specifics. For ground, there's more variety but "one tactical with melee powers, one science healbot, two engineers who make lots of turrets" should get you through most everything without much of a problem.

For my Temporal Recruit, once I hit Captain and could unlock specialisations I've been rocking one full time Intelligence, one Temporal Operative, one full time science healer and a half Engineer/half Command boff. Keep your shields and health up and then blow dudes away with time magic, tripwires and bombs. mystic pimp posted:I got to Lt. Commander again and got an escort because I seem to recall cruisers being slow as poo poo and terrible. Cannons used to be really good, is it all beams now or should I stick with cannons on an escort? I don't have access to the wiki yet to look. Escorts are great at levelling because they're quick, which helps you power through mission content. At endgame, a decent cruiser will turn fast enough to negate that advantage. Beams are good either way it though, the skills for beamboating are more accessible and it's more forgiving if you're a bad or lazy pilot.

Definitely keep using escorts during the run to 50, but past that point, Cruisers tend to be the easiest ships to set up properly and the most generally powerful. Also, you'll need certain consoles. I have at least one of them, so hit me up in game.

What's a decent boff setup for a fleet alita? I am asking for a non-goon friend who I am trying to help out. I have a general idea of the boff setup I'd use, but I dunno which pilot abilities might be worth mixing in.

SKY COQ posted:So what you really need is a player to draw... Aggro... Off of the mobs... It doesn't even matter, though, because any damage will break closing the portal, and the map is full to the brim with assholes spamming AOE attacks. And the envelope for closing the portals seems to be about 2km away. It seems like the only way to actually close them is everyone spams as much damage as they can at one portal, then move on to the next.

They have. There are missions where you can get hosed up and it doesn't break the action you're in. Brotherhood of the Sword is one of them. Cryptic decided that that shouldn't be a thing here.

It's ludicrous design to put any-damage-interrupts alongside constant spawns of AoE-spamming-enemies, but Cryptic has never known how to do gameplay design anyway. They just know that enemy AoE is their panacea for lovely enemy AI and don't bother to think or care about how it affects things like this or other stuff like targetable torpedos or fighters.

I'm pretty sure fighters have received a general buff to counteract that AoE spam that's prevalent with the endgame enemy types, actually. That, or Kelvin Drones are paradoxically tougher than most other fighter types

Only hull damage breaks the channel. Get a source of temporary hull (easiest is probably that one that gives a bunch when you use an attack pattern, I think from pilot spec?), let someone else get aggro with FAW spam, and then ignore the AoE around you while you shut the portal down. -Troika- posted:Kelvin drones are one of the highest DPS pets currently due to their making GBS threads torp spreads everywhere and the general rapid fire of kelvin torp launchers.

Yeah, that's true and all, but firing torps faster doesn't increase your hull and shield strength, which was that post was referencing. Good try, I guess.

The STARFLEET DENTAL Memorial Celebration/Giveaway Event is set for Thursday the 21st at 7:30 EDT on Bajor. I know the time doesn't work for everyone, but that's all I can swing this week. If anyone has any items they'd like to donate for the event, go ahead and send them my way and I'll add them to the pool. We have a few pubbies adding to the already generous prize pool, so it should be the most generous "funeral" in STO history. Additionally, I'm looking for any/all contest ideas for the event. If you have any ideas, send them to me in-game. No offense to my man Binks, who has graciously donated his money to Lowtax to keep an eye on this thread, but I think everyone benefits from a surprise or two. Life gets dull otherwise.
