I'm currently running with Deadly Combat and Archery Gameplay Overhaul. Deadly Combat was really fun for the first 10 levels because of how hyper-lethal it made everything, but now in my 20's I am feeling just as godlike as ever unless I do something really incredibly stupid like running into a pack of 6 bandits full melee.

I tried installing Action Combat for the blade parrying it was supposed to add, but either it isn't there or the animations for it are too brief and unnoticeable. I wish there was a proper "volley-back-and-forth" parrying mod that made clashing of blades to wear out stamina more of the central theme of melee combat. Maybe there is and I just haven't found it?

I use deadly dragons and adjust the health and damage occasionally to keep them challenging.

I don't trust mods that claim to automatically make dragon fights "more immersive" or "challenging" because they turn into arrow sponges that one shot you. In my humble opinion dragon fights in skyrim are the worst part of combat and I want them to be over as quickly as possible. That usually means cranking their damage way up and their health way down, Dark Souls mode, baby.

Just saw this on the Requiem reddit for MCM options you need to turn off in Vigor if you're using Requiem. You already done all that?

Thanks, the first one was obvious so I tried that first but the other settings wouldn't have occurred to me to try

Apoplexy posted:

Current recommendations are Vigor and Wildcat, either or. They seem to do almost the exact same thing with a few minor changes. I'm using Vigor + its movement tweaks (Attack Commitment and, sigh, something from Apollodown that isn't awful), TK Dodge, and Ultimate Dragons. Oh, and VioLens as well.

Since I decided to go with newer mods or newer alternatives to mods I've used in the past, I'm using a combination of Vigor and Action Combat, though I guess it might be best to drop AC if I can do that mid-game. Also using Archery Gameplay Overhaul, Attack Commitment, TK Dodge, Revenge and Mortal Enemies. All in addition to Requiem. Combat basically consists of who can get the first hit in while the other is power attacking.

I might have gone more than a bit overboard actually, is there more overlap/conflicts than I'm aware of?

People are sooo defensive/aggressive about their mods. I just tried talking to a mod author that had changed the meshes of some vanilla armor in a mod where i didn't really expect that to be done and it looks kinda bad. Tried to ask as well as i could for a patch that would revert the vanilla looks, but i just got some passive/aggressive "that's not our vision" back and i just had to end it as he got increasingly agitated.
I'll try to make my own patch i guess! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

if one person asks for a patch you brush them off because that takes work. If a hundred people ask for the patch you could probably get around to it.

You know what to do, make 100 alt accounts and emails and ask for that drat patch

I don't understand the hate some people have for him. Reading the story about it I can understand why he'd see it as someone co-opting his mod, he probably just wanted to add a unique touch to his mod and it failed miserably. If I'd made a really popular mod and someone re-released a copy pasted version of it minus some unpopular quirks I'd probably be upset as well. Sounds like he got way too defensive afterwards but that was years ago, it's a bit long to hold a grudge.

That's just the slightest, most ephemeral tip of the shitberg that is Arthmoor. There's a ton of hilariously lovely behavior that he's pulled over the years, off the top of my head:

1. When a savegame-killing bug was discovered in the USKP, rather than quickly throwing up a hotfix, he took two days to put out a fix and attacked the person who found the bug.
2. Hates Mod Organizer, to the point where he calls the STEP wiki "the marketing arm of Mod Organizer."
3. Was all-in on the paid mods poo poo. Hilariously, right before Bethesda unveiled paid mods (but when the modders involved knew about it) there was a "Would you like to have paid mods" poll in the Modders only subforum where more than 2/3 voted against it. In the beating heart of the nexus hugbox, Arthmoor lost. It was lovely. It also came out that he was broke and unemployed during that whole nonsense.

Gate-gate is the least of the reasons for disliking Arthmoor.

I do seriously dislike him, because he's a large part of the reason (IMHO) that mod authors behaving like jackasses became normalized and accepted.

Two Three more fun Arthmoor facts:

He lives in California, and even I will admit he has a lot of technical skill, and yet he can't get a decent paying job in the tech industry (IMHO, because of his lovely personality.)
He's a right-wing rear end in a top hat, with "RIP United States of America -November 2012" in his sig on all the forums I've seen him on.
He's had two failed kickstarters for his furry RPG project.

Serious talk: having to deal with people like him is what kept me from getting into modding for the longest time.

And in nonmod talk, I believe I've locked myself out of my PC. :(

When people only see the 'benefit' - i.e. look at all the work he does - and refuse to see the costs - look at all the potential work and creativity he's driving away, well, that's far too common in more arenas than mods :(

So if you're paying any attention at all to recent events on the internet, you're aware of the controversy surrounding Brendan Eich, former CEO (and CTO) of Mozilla, the company that makes the Firefox web browser. You've probably heard all manner of things by now about what an evil man he is, about how he's a bigot, a homophobe, and an all around terrible person who should be shunned from civilized society...

Six years ago, like the majority of Californians, President Obama, and the majority of Americans, Brendan Eich was (and still is - bless him) in favor of defending traditional marriage as being between one man and one woman.

Speaking of his game. It's on Steam Greenlight and apparently it's been greenlit somehow. Gameplay looks kind of boring, and it looks like a reskinned version of Skyrim. I even saw some objects which look like they were lifted straight from Skyrim, textures and all.

How long do you think before it gets hit with a CaD from Bethesda for the ingame assets and we get another Arthmoor meltdown.

Here's the link to the Greenlight page. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=647892080

The only reason I know about the Greenlight thing is because Arthmoor's advertising it on almost every one of his mods I've downloaded in the last few days.
