also the "no more floppy drive" analogy is very bad and extra dumb because when floppies became obsolete there were other media formats that took its place

this is the equivalent of removing an internal floppy drive and requiring a corded floppy drive instead

for real though if this pinout diagram is accurate

they can keep the DAC internal and use pins 6-8 for the two audio channels and mic which would make for a dead-simple dongle.

not really. The lightning connector is about half the thickness of a headphone jack (but 3x as wide). besides, Apple is specifically doing this to get the phones 0.1mm thinner or whatever
