I'm glad we can all agree that Metalsucks is sub-tabloid quality clickbait garbage but y'all are still spilling a lot of ink to defend some dumb aussie hick who sent death threats in order to silence bad press, on the basis that he wrote some tunes you like. Das dumb.

But this isn't!

Best lyric video I've seen in a long time, and some loving awesome melodic riffs - it's 9 minutes but it just flies by and you don't want it to end.

I keep hearing mention of "post black metal" and poo poo in reviews but there's no shoe-gazing with 5 notes played in a mid-song interlude that lasts 5 minutes with birds chirping. This song kind of sounds like Insomnium/Omnium Gatherum only with a rasp instead of a growl. Apparently not every song is in the same style though so I dunno about the rest of the new album.

A+ would recommend.

Review: http://www.angrymetalguy.com/harakiri-sky-iii-trauma-review/

quote:

Harakiri continues to deliver a pristine, riffy, dynamic, and hyper-melodic collision of post-rock and black metal that places genuine musical substance and quality songwriting over sappy atmospherics and pretentious concepts. Imagine Alcest but more extreme and less sentimental, Austere but more melodic and less bleak, or Deafheaven but more consistent and less Pitchfork fellatio.

I was replying to biased and subjective opinions that you, amongst others, were voicing from an uninformed position that wouldn't have been out of place in a metalsucks column. You let your own opinion of Keith colour your responses to this thread, and you've also let your own assumptions shape why you think I might reply.

I said Metalsucks alleged (I bolded it for you, for emphasis) that he had Nazi connections and made a joke about how threatening Jewish people is a bad look when you're trying to disprove claims that you're a neo Nazi.

But please tell me more about all these assumptions I apparently made that prompted your graduate thesis in defense of the right honorable KK Warslut.

TheIllestVillain posted:

For real. Also, just because the guy isn't curb-stomping non-whites on the weekend, doesn't mean he isn't a racist dipshit. Having a "jewish guy" in the band doesn't make him not racist or a not a nazi, just like how your "black friend" doesn't make you not racist ( just tolerant ).

Most likely being tired and drunk just made him say things he truly believes but normally would have kept to himself. This is like some sort of band/singer white-knight'ing just like all the rednecks defending Phil Anselmo and believing him when he said "white power was about all the white wine we were drinking backstage".

"White Australian is pretty racist but normally hides it" News at 11.

Now, where can I buy a t shirt.

I stopped caring about Ne Obliviscaris after their whole Patreon meltdown thing ( although obviously it worked out extremely well for them ), but they just posted a video publicly ( that normally would be only for members of the Ne Obluminatti or whatever the gently caress ) and thought - maybe this will be interesting and could justify subscribing.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2wvvmtPpr5M

Why would anyone watch this and go "WOW, I'm so glad I pay rent to this band so they can post a video about how they are at location X and this is the first day off they've had in awhile and talk about the weather" or conversely, watch this and go "I NEED to start paying them now so I can see more!".

Some of the stuff like Rhapsody or Sabaton.

To my untrained ears (untrained in this genre, I normally listen to 90s death, thrash and blah blah) it doesnt sound as good as that stuff.

I don't know that I can really say why, but the new Revocation album, Great Is Our Sin, is good. It seems like their last few releases have been on a rather solid streak for me. Good mix of both technical and catchy riffs. Nothing new or groundbreaking. Just a solid metal band releasing solid albums.

I need to listen to that new one but Deathless was super solid. There's a quote from Dave Mustaine on how a lot of modern thrash doesn't feel personal or human and they're one of the technical modern bands that does. Most don't and end up sounding like songs generated by a thrash metal computer played by robots. Davidson does that thing that I always loved about Death where there's that one section or riff in every song that just obliterates you even if the rest didn't do much for you.

Man, it's been literally a decade now that I've been listening to Summoning -- obsessively off and on in cycles. Currently the thing I can't get enough of is Let Mortal Heroes Sing Your Fame, the whole album over and over. Can an album even be better than that?

Their poo poo shouldn't work, on paper. Programmed drums, croaking vocals, repetitive ambient melodies, the nerdiest loving subject matter you can imagine... And yet it somehow comes together into something magical.
