If your scoop is big enough, you can just wander close enough to the star while honking that it won't matter. There's no big time difference either way.

You're a braver man than I if you go into the system map while flying toward a star, though. I've burned up in deep space scooping from a star and trying to plot a course near the center of the galaxy.

There's a sweet spot if you're going tangent to the star and have a large scoop where you can complete the scoop and straddle the star without falling into it. I can gauge it by the yellow "danger" line around the star but it's too hard to describe without getting a feel for it. In any case usually when I've lined that up I have enough time to pop into system view and give it a cursory glance. When I'm back out I'm out of the corona and am ready to scan or move on.

It works very well for quick travel so for those with a big scoop, I recommend it.

Yeah, though to be fair if you go any closer with a Courier you basically incinerate immediately.

Cobras, FDLs and Pythons can idle crazy close and remain fairly heat neutral.

Yeah, never fly straight at the star to scoop. Fly towards the outside of the exclusion zone at a tangent and don't let your heat get above 65% or so! :eng101:

If you are a crazy person like me, you can do this while you are firing the discovery scanner, then drop your speed to 0 and point at the star to scan it while you refuel. Never not scan all of the things.

I don't know about the Pleiades, but I haven't seen another CMDR except for my friend who escorted me in, even now that I'm back. Still not completely convinced this is a multiplayer game...

I saw one once, he messaged me about the Keelback I was sitting in port with, when I was just flying one for a day to see how bad it was.

Then once I saw one in Frame Shift going the other way. I think that was in Lembava.

Are you talking about Maia? That's old news, the discussion last revolved around Eol Prou RS-T d3-94, the system Jaque's station is in. That system is something like 20+ k ly from the bubble, not just a couple hundred.

As long as you're not diving straight into the star, scooping and scanning and anything else while parked is fine.

But if you're going to go make a sandwich or especially poke around in the system map, be aware that you're still in motion in supercruise, even with the throttle at minimum. And you can't hear warning sirens in the map screen until everything is on fire and shutting down.

Nah. Fly at the star. When you leave supercruise, reduce your throttle to just below the blue zone and immediately start scanning the star. Slam on the brakes when your fuel scoop reaches 3/4 capacity and you'll stop at just around max input. The two biggest time sucks when exploring are the time it takes you to scan the central star and the time it takes you to scoop fuel. Having tried the flying around star thing, this way is much faster for both.

Disclaimer: results may vary for ships that aren't my particular build of Asp.

Went to Maia to get a meta alloy, honked all the systems along the way, fully explored maia and another one, only got elvira up to rank 2.9.

Having just done a similar build, I wouldn't recommend the extra tanks. They are entirely unnecessary and will just increase the time you spend refueling instead of scanning/taking pictures.

An extra class-3 fuel tank in the DBE massively expands its range. Jump it as soon as the FSD cooldown finishes. Run it until it's almost dry (easy to see on the galactic map) and only scoop then, saves time from dipping into the star and flying back out on every jump. And while the tiny scoop does its work, get a sandwich or make a cocktail or check the mail or catch up on the StarCit thread or whatever. The tank's more useful than an AFMU.

And, yeah, it can skip through unscoopable badlands or farm neutron fields with little worry.

Since i tried the class 4 Beam on the FDL i think grinding Imperials for the Cutter was a mistake.
I cant imagine what a corvette with 2 of those will do to anything smaller than a dreadnaught.

e: also my class 4 multicannon doesnt deplete ammo upon reloading a magazine. Guess thats a bug?

What you speak of is one of the random mods, no?
So basically you have a 5% chance to get the correct one, multiply this with the number of cannons you want to outfit.

The travel-engineers were always confusing to me, since Frontier never fixed the bug with your travel distance always shown at maximum possible distance. When I'm looking at my display stating the completely wrong fact that I travelled 65k+ light years, is the game using that wrong number or is it just a display error and engineers are actually using your true travel distance?

In my case I can't test this, because even the true number would be about four times as high as what the most demanding engineer wants. Someone would need to make a new account, see if he gets the same display error and look if he gets invitations from engineers based on the error.
