Just got back from Beyond. Loved it, top to bottom. And I hate Into Darkness. Every character has something to do. Everyone plays their characters really well. The music takes a ton of cues from 60's Trek. They paid tribute to Nimoy, Anton, and the original crew many times. The opening scene is one of my favorite bits. "I tore my shirt again. : /" killed me. I thought Idris Elba was wasted under the makeup at the start of the movie, but that worked itself out towards the end and I think he was great. The Yorktown is amazing, one of the most creative Trek sets in generations. It's still the very actiony New Trek, but I think the plot is great and its overall well-written. The climax was the stupidest, loudest, most audacious, amazing perfect thing. Put Jaylah in a Starfleet uniform and never take her away from me, she's basically Trek's Drax the Destroyer and I am cool with that.

Forgive me if this has been asked before, but given how heavily Beyond references elements of ENT, is there a mostly agreed upon list of episodes worth watching? I've been binging on Netflix and it's kind of a slog, and that theme song

Just got back from Beyond, and I loved it. Definitely the best of the nu-trek series. There's not much I can say about it that hasn't already been said in this thread, but I'll echo the stuff about how I wish Krall's backstory could have been revealed earlier in the film to open up some more exploration of his motivations, since I think there's a kernel of something interesting and socially relevant in there, but the movie didn't really have time to explore it much. Also, Jaylah's cool and I'm so glad they didn't try to push a romance subplot on her and I hope she joins the crew in the next movie. In general, the crew looked a lot more diverse than in any other iteration of Star Trek, too, which was nice.

What a beautiful little starship. I've been thinking a little more about STB - was there some technobabble I missed that would explain how the swarm managed to take down the Enterprise so quickly? Their en masse ramming manoeuvre was really cool but there must have been some incidental dialogue about 'shields out of phase' or something right?

There's some decent stuff in the first three seasons but it's sandwiched between such boring garbage that I'm not sure someone new to the series would even bother finishing it all. Here's a short list for seasons 1 & 2. Season 3 is one long arc so it's tough to just cherry pick. Broken Bow The Andorian Incident Shadows of P'Jem Carbon Creek Minefield Dead Stop The Catwalk First Flight There's a few others that may be worth watching but I'd check these out first. I liked Enterprise, but it really struggles to find its footing and escape the boring plots that Voyager championed for 7 years.

Literally the ugliest ship. And the teaser was quite odd. It looked worse than the CGI that Fan projects pump out. Not really the best introduction to the series for anyone. I'm actually a bit worried about it now.
