I am cool.
Can't believe someone was talking poo poo about Tekken Champion Gundyr. The rhythm of that fight is so drat good, and the way he punishes you for predictable moves is fluid, fair and satisfying. Also there aren't a lot of enemies in Dark Souls that give you a straight kick to the loving face for trying to dodge behind him like a retard.

It's not quite as bad in levels where you can stealth around and gear back up, but yeah, I found TNO to have a lot of rough edges like that.

Fortunately the game has Lucio, who's one of the best support characters I've ever seen, so it's not too bad.

Fits her characterisation otherwise.

he has my favorite form change. he just does a pose and emits a small aura around him. everyone else has a really bombastic visible change, but with Gundyr you just feel the change in rhythm and timing.

When one of the actually valid criticisms of the game is that it is very short, hyperbole of that kind is still just dumb. It very rapidly spirals away from the cliché formula it initially seems to be aping, like the half a dozen other similar games published around that time.

So the idea of there being mood whiplash or a disconnect between the message and the game itself, when the game itself can be completed in as little as an afternoon just doesn't hold water.

On the other hand, what's silly or not is of course subjective, so ehh. Same with not being immersed enough in games to not feel bad about poo poo I guess?

Just Cause 3 seems like it could be a good game, but the controls just hamstring the entire experience. With Just Cause 2, I was usually able to swap between KB+M and pad, but now the stuff I'd usually play with KB+M are just terrible now. I had to drag my mouse across my mousepad 9 times to turn a helicopter halfway around. The wingsuit just controls like poo poo in general. Playing with just the pad isn't an option either because the on foot controls suck on a pad.

Also, who thought that making precision aim an unlockable was a good idea? What a ridiculous thing to do.

Oh, really? I just thought the framerate was so low because I had a video running on another monitor. JC3 is easily the choppiest game I've seen in a while, and DOOM and The Witcher 3 will run much smoother at equal or greater settings.

I'm replaying GTA: SA through the PS2 on PS4 thing and man, the lack of a quick mission restart loving sucks. It's especially bad on missions that have a fail state other than dying because you can end up out on the middle of nowhere. Also if you do die you lose all your weapons and have to waste time getting them back.

There's definitely a trend of that era - the games really don't respect the player's times. PS2/Xbox both suffer from some serious loading times.

That's GTA in general though. Reminder that GTAOnline has four people drive for 10+ minutes every time they want to do a heist. Heists are the only way to reliably make money. There's also only like five heists and all but one of them take forever and even one gently caress up means you have to redo it.

But in general, yeah PS2 games especially were really bad about just expecting players to do stupid time consuming bullshit. Like the Book of 100 in the .hack GU games. Kill one of every enemy, talk to every NPC and collect one of every item are semi-expected of you. I mean now they would just give you achievements, but achievements are almost never actually tied to any in-game content so who cares about that.

Thinking back to real time sinks in games, remember the collectibles from the first few Assassin's Creed games? That was first one certainly did not respect the players' time. Huge unskippable blocks of dialogue, no way to jump in to the world and gently caress around, massive list of boring collectibles.

I recall having a poo poo load of fun playing in San Andreas when it was the new GTA. I actually 100% it twice, both times with no deaths, no arrests, and no weapons or armor purchased. I memorized the location of the 500cc superbikes, all the weapons, and the armor. I actually had a clear data before starting the first mission on Grove Street. As a matter of fact, I had my pilot's license before the first mission by breaking into the airport and flying for like 2 hours in order to unlock the gate(you get the pilots license once you hit 10% in flying skill). That one was especially fun because you lose health naturally by not eating and you have to supplement it by bingeing on Sprunk because none of the restaurants are unlocked by that point. I had like 95 tags sprayed before the first mission(there are like 4 to spray in an actual Sweet mission and the fifth is on the side of the overpass next to Ryder's house which I avoided going to because the goal was be as powerful as possible by the time I'm ready to 'start' playing and approaching Grove Street cues some ambient dialog from CJ which I felt the need to preserve in my clear data file). The fastest way to save without unlocking the Grove Street hideout is doing 50 taxi fares(preferably in one go) then buying the hideout closest to the stadium. Then it's a matter of save scumming horse races at the OTB in the center of Los Santos.

I did this for each island.

Twice.

The first time took over 200 hours to get 100%, the second time took just under 80. As I said this was fun for me and I don't recall being frustrated many times while playing.

That said, ALL of the GTA games in my opinion age terribly. Small changes over the course of the franchise in mechanics and camera controls have spoiled me and I can't stand San Andreas anymore even after like a 10 year break.

The stat stuff is just a terrible addition to the series, especially with how granular they got. You didn't have a shooting stat, every gun type had it's own stat and you leveled them up individually. Also the controls are all kinds of terrible. To shoot first you lock on with R1 and then you can hit L1 or circle to actually fire. You don't use the triggers to drive, instead it's X to accelerate and square to break.
