True story, JAIDS has been going on for the past two nights and doesn't look like it'll be solved for a while still. It'd be fine if Hitler happened, so keeping Guava's dignity intact would be the correct choice here. Operation Guava's Moment (yes that is a potential thing in the Op name list Jade has)

Okay. so.. things are progressing... there are minor, very minor, problems with the next updates. VERY MINOR! totally under control... Also I'm just going to start up a new save file with the big SA goon pool and play a campaign on my twitch stream because I need to play more X-Com while actually relaxing and not worrying over how OBS may have introduced some minor, very minor audio desync into two videos. So if you want to watch and maybe make a second chance at appearing in the great big jade goon pool, you can watch here - http://www.twitch.tv/sa_jadestar

Just watched the VOD of the JadeStream featuring GoonCom soldiers. Brutal time for poor Jade. The big lesson we learn't here is that the AI director knows when you put too many soldiers in a cluster, and will use explosives on them; for some reason it appears to preference this when they are on roofs or other easily destroyed platforms that will lead to fall damage: In .gif form! Edit 2: Question, I didn't realize the Resistance armour was an actual equip-able and not just a prop. Are there Resistance models of the higher tier armours too? Operation Sleeping Throne Room I'll preface this with a warning that the JAIDs is coming. I talk about what went wrong a bit in the video, but this video may not be as high quality as previously. As I mentioned FRAPS is now having issues and I used a different recording method with out getting all the settings perfect. The mission portion of the video was recorded in 720p and may be a little lower quality than usual. This is fixed by next video, sorry about that. But like Guava says, it's a Jadestar LP, you're lucky you don't somehow get cancer by watching this. Retaliation missions are the new Terror missions. They play out almost the same with the same sort of mechanics to worry about. Namely rescuing civilians before they are all murdered by the aliens. There is no hard turn timer like most other missions but a good rule of thumb to keep in mind is that the aliens will kill one civilian as long as there is a alien pod untriggered and roaming around in the shroud. This generally means you have to be quick with things. You can optionally choose to seek out the aliens and deal with them before they can kill all the civilians or you can move out and rescue the civilians yourself and deny the aliens the ability to kill enough of them to cause a mission failure. Retaliation missions can play out very differently from each other solely based on where the civilians are and map lay out. Sometimes you may be able to rescue 6 civilians in short order at the start of the map which will give you a lot of breathing room to take things slower and safer. Sometimes you may barely find any and need to rush forward to either find civilians or find the aliens and stop them first. A big new wrinkle to the retaliation missions is the new alien unit Faceless. Faceless are huge jerks that are disguised as civilians and will transform when you get too close. On their own they aren't so bad, they only melee attack and for rather low damage. The big problems that come with faceless is when they transform and swipe at you while you are busy dealing with other aliens. Notably their swipe will destroy cover in a small area of effect potentially leaving a wounded soldier exposed and vulnerable for other aliens to pick off. Faceless are the most difficult to deal with early on in the game when soldiers have low health and ballistic weapons may take several shots to drop the 10hp monsters. Once the first armor and weapon upgrades are equipped they become pretty tame. There are ways to detect faceless ahead of time as well, battle scanners and the specialist ability Scanning Protocol will reveal faceless. Lastly any faceless left disguised once all other aliens are killed will drop their disguise and rush at you. This isn't really threatening at the end of the map and is more of a convenience thing rather then having to hunt them down and check every civilian left on the map. So good thinking there Jake. Faceless are how I learned that corners don't hold up buildings anymore, since one took a swipe at someone on the 2nd floor of one, collapsed the building and the soldier fell to their death. Farewell unlucky sharpshooter, you deserved better.

GoonCom beat the first One nice little touch is that civilians have names now. Losing "Yekatarina Morozova" hurts so much more than losing "Civilian". If they have names, they must be important. I think Jade got screwed slightly by the timing here. The first retaliation happened about 5 minutes into the second month. One enemy type which can't appear until the second month is... stun lancers! Oh, how we love these enemies. We love how they can double-move-charge in on our soldiers, and then make an attack that doesn't care about cover and is capable of incapacitating a solder regardless of how many HP they have. And yet Jake thought that that on its own wasn't enough bullshit so he gave them some dodge. Lancers are not so bad later on in the game, but having to deal with them this early can be painful. A fun little detail: although cover can't help you, suppression can. This is because the "dash and bash" maneuver all counts as a single attack and the game calculates its probability of hitting when the action is started - while suppression is still in effect. In principle, the lancers could mitigate this by splitting it into a move followed by a 1-move dash-and-bash. In practice, they don't do that. Another little quirk is that if, during the charge, something happens to the lancer that takes away its melee ability (getting set on fire, for example), then the attack is aborted. Meaning the lancer just made a double move for free and it still has its two actions to move again and shoot. Wonderful. (Hmm. Now that I come to think of it, could XCOM trigger the same effect on purpose by pathing a dash+slash through a fire? I need to test that.) The autopsy mechanic is rather odd. Despite the game saying it's "experience in battle", it's just the number of corpses in storage that affects the autopsy speed. So in general you should never do an autopsy unless it's free or you need the results in a hurry. Instant autopsies is one reason why I'm a big advocate of triggering reinforcements on purpose in missions where you get to keep the corpses you make. Although you need a lot of corpses to do an instant autopsy, only one corpse is consumed. I guess Tygan just needs to look at the corpses or something. In the case of the faceless, I would always do the autopsy when I have 3 corpses - 1 for the autopsy itself and 2 to build a mimic beacon. Despite the nerf, those things are still insanely good.

I've pretty much always gotten a retaliation mission in the second month of a fresh campaign, so I've also had enemies on retaliation missions (and defend the point missions) ignore my exposed soldiers and shoot at civs and mission targets. The AI is weird sometimes.

It's not too surprising the Sniper got hurt when Jade put her in sight range of the enemy and in half cover. I believe the AI sometimes prioritizes hitting Snipers when they get the chance, since they often don't get the chance. Cause the Sniper should never be in sight range of the enemy. Aah, the amount of times a Stun Lancer has dashed out from the fog to 6 crit knock out my soldier. Beautiful. Also, Legendary can be fun... when you find Commander isn't doing it for you anymore. It's Impossible that's a pile of luck garbage. Crosspeice fucked around with this message at 22:39 on Jul 24, 2016 |

The sweetest thing is having a lone faceless take a swipe at your soldier, obliterate all of the cover around them, and completely miss your guy. Feels very dramatic.
