Cracks me up that they're using Taserface of all characters in the movie. I realise it'll probably just be the name but that's a bit of a Valentino era deep cut, isn't it? The character was even named by Jim Valentino's teenage son and renamed "Overkill" in his second appearance.

His backstory was that he was the chief agent of a species called "the Stark", whose entire society was a cargo cult based around a spaceship full of technology Tony Stark fired into space to prevent it from falling into the hands of invading aliens.

He looks pretty close to the comics version of Taserface.

Ya, that's the problem. Marvel probably won't let him do poo poo.

I think they might loosen it up after GotG and no one liking Thor 2. There was already this yesterday:

quote:

Marvel played a video Waititi directed at Comic-Con, showing Thor and Hulk’s whereabouts during Captain America: Civil War.

The piece was shot like a documentary, similar in style to Waititi’s breakout film What We Do In The Shadows. It began with a logo for a New Zealand documentary company and then a very grainy, VHS-looking logo for Captain America: Civil War with the words “Team Thor” crudely put over it.

It starts with Chris Hemsworth as Thor, sitting in a very modest, beige apartment. He’s being interviewed for this documentary. Thor explains that after the last adventure, he decided to take a break. “I needed some me time,” he said, so he went to New Zealand and moved in with a random regular dude named Darryl.

As Thor talks, he waves around his hammer without a care in the world. Darryl looks horrified. Thor explains that he and Darryl are helping each other with things, and we get a glimpse of Darryl trying to sweep the floor, except Mjolnir is just in the middle of the room for no reason.

We see Thor stalking Darryl at work, in full costume. He walks around the office, dictating an “electronic mail” that Darryl is going to send to “Tony Stark, a.k.a. Iron Man” for him. In it, Thor basically asks how Tony’s doing and that he heard something with going on with “Steve Rogers, a.k.a. Captain America.” (Every time Thor mentions those characters, he phrases it like that: real name a.k.a. superhero name.)

Next Thor explains how he’s been helping out in the community. He’s shown in a kid’s classroom having drawn a crude drawing of the Avengers on the wall in crayon. “Who is this?” Thor asks the kids. “Vision!” they all scream. “Wow, I’m surprised you knew that.”

Cut to Thor’s room, where he’s got a Beautiful Mind-style wall that says “What are Infinity Stones?” on it. He takes the audience through some culprits, like his brother Loki, and someone he calls Purple Guy (it’s Thanos). Thor knows three things about this character: He’s purple, he has a glove, and he doesn’t like standing up.

Finally, Thor is sitting down for coffee with Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner. Thor explains to Banner that he’s a little hurt that “Tony Stark, a.k.a. Iron Man,” hasn’t called him to help with his feud with “Steve Rogers, a.k.a. Captain America.” Banner explains he hasn’t gotten the call either when, just then, his phone rings. It’s Tony Stark.

Banner answers the call, and Thor keeps asking for the phone. When Banner asks Tony why he hasn’t called Thor, he (apparently) says it’s because he doesn’t know how to get in touch with him. “I don’t have a phone,” Thor says. “Send a raven.”

Plus he's putting Jeff Goldblum in it. He's gonna fit some humor in there.

SPACE FACE! SPACE FACE!

I went out with a buddy last night I hadn't seen in years. We met in University and were both kinda proto-geeks of the first degree back then. He's always been super wrapped up in popular culture, comics and the like especially, whereas I had always been more about sci fi/fantasy novels, and kind of use BSS as a handy hive mind crutch when referring to comic topics. What struck me about talking with him last night, and really the whole time I've known him, is that he's always been incessantly optimistic about all this comic book stuff, and is always willing to give it a fair shake based entirely on its merits. He's one of those rare people who actually enjoys what he enjoys without consideration, and doesn't have a mean or cynical bone in his body.

He started talking about how he's looking forward to Suicide Squad, and I was about to start ribbing him about it, when I realized there wasn't really an argument I could make that wasn't rooted in some kind of hard-bitten cynicism or assumption without the presence of facts. I realized that the vast majority of people commenting on, and ostensibly "enjoying" these movies are doing so because they enjoy disliking something bad more than they enjoy liking something good, or winning points for their "team". Yeah, it's probably going to suck, for a number of reasons. But why get bent out of shape about it? Are you less of a person because you were looking forward to it? Or are you just notching up nerd cred with other people who might feel the same way?

It was a nice moment, and I actually have a lot of respect for the guy for being so deep into this nerd culture (and he is super deep) without being tainted by the opinions and assumptions of others, and being simply willing to give stuff a fair shake regardless. I've never been passionate about these movies, but have admittedly ridden the wave of ridicule just because things have looked ridiculous from afar. This isn't a commentary on anything specifically mentioned in this thread, but it was you guys I was thinking of when I made this realization. They're movies. Hating them beforehand isn't going to make them any more or less good.

Hating movies before you see them is bad and something I actively avoid. That said, WB has a real knack for making bad decisions with the DC characters and those films in general so I'm going to continue being skeptical. gently caress, I'm actually a little excited for Suicide Squad and everything they've done to promote the Joker in that has been a massive loving turn-off.

I have no idea what you're trying to say. We shouldn't form opinions and impressions based on media and trailers that are designed to do that exact thing? It's okay if they're positive?? I think Suicide Squad looks absolutely wretched, why is that a problem? There are plenty of films I enjoy and am happy about and future ones that I think look awesome, I don't also need to look forward to this one also, it's not something I enjoy, I frankly don't give a poo poo, I'm just probably not going to watch it.

gently caress off with telling people how they should feel about something, honestly. This is the worst screed I've read in a while.

What has impressed me about Suicide Squad is that it not only got an Asylum knock off of it (Sinister Squad) but also a porn parody from Axel Braun both ready to be launched around the same time as the main film.

That's some impressive rip-off brand synergy going there. And I do love how all the casts for the main film and porn parody are really enthusiastic about them.

Wow that is some choice. I don't want to sound racist, but he certainly doesn't look like an Eugene "Flash" Thompson. Who is, by next week, established to be the nephew of actress Lea Thompson.

Seriously though. Being named Eugeene Thompson, and giving yourself the name Flash is not something I would expect from this person.
I feel terrible for that opinion, since I try to be open for changes.

VVVV I guess your right. :( I am mostly just quite surprised. I don't like to think this way and I am certainly not a supporter of typecasting. what a web sight

I'm going through the Lee/Ditko ASM stuff for the first time and I could totally see Revolori working as Flash.

Flash and Peter are both equally dicks to one another in a lot of that stuff, Flash just has more friends around him. Flash's athleticism is really only brought up when Peter insults him and he gets the Scholarship to ESU and Flash rarely bullies Peter for specifically being a nerd and more just to be a jerk.

Flash has been defined as Peter Parker's bully in later years/adaptations because a) it's quicker and b) to let them gloss over the fact that Peter is also kind of a dick in those early issues.
