I'm just going to fill my census form with inaccurate data. They can't possibly check everyone's, so if you answer even a third of the questions incorrectly the whole thing is hosed. The only things they'll get for sure are my name, address, age, and how many people live at my residence (All stuff they know from other sources). Beyond that it's up to a coin toss.

gently caress them for attacking privacy the way they are.

Re the census:

I'd like to see this discussed more widely but my understanding is that refusing to have your name attached to the data is not contradicted by the actual Census legislation. If anyone is prosecuted they will in all likelihood have to dismiss the charges.

That being said: You can simply state that nobody stayed in your house that night. On an interstate journey (etc.)

You'd have to be willing to put up the fight, and it's $180 each day after deadline you refuse to provide the info according to what I just googled. That's a big gamble on the letter rather than the spirit of the act (as I understand it). I can eat a small fine, but not that. Sleeping bags under the office desk?

That will go to a recount, but yeah.

One person would've voted Labor but decided to vote informal instead somewhere in that seat. Our country's government is now specifically THEIR FAULT.

Even at boot camp and other places/times in the army I saw a fair amount of cpl's and sgt's abuse their position in ways that were definitely breaching regulations. I can only imagine the more sinister poo poo that goes down every single day within our correctional facilities, detention centres and loving schools/churches/concentration camps.

It's a depressing reality of human behaviour and interpersonal interaction, yet it still baffles me.

Agreed, that was much worse than I expected. I thought the expose was just about the tear-gassing and indefinite solitary confinement without basic necessities and the corresponding systematic failures/atrocities.

I did not expect the systematic violence to have occurred over so many years, and even multiple locations among half a dozen different victims. The level of disregard and blatant viciousness over multiple accounts is just horrific, especially the ongoing torturous treatment of the one kid who'd been in since he was loving 11, abuse starting not long after.

This poo poo is outrageous, and such a perfect example of how things like Manus and Nauru seem like practical and beneficial solutions for our opportunistic and manipulative Government. You just switch the same behaviours from the power of a correctional officer, to having the powers of legislation and governance, and it makes sense...
