Hiding for the first year or so are the smartest thing that the AI can do with its carriers since they are outnumbered and their planes suck. It would help Grey a lot in the future if he can lure a few out to sink before they show up in 1943 full of Hellcats flown by superhuman pilots.

Enemy bombers hit Rangoon. 15,000 bloody feet. I'm concentrating to destroy this force, but they try an ill advised attack. Things will be more interesting once the KB's are fixed up again. Hmm, I saw no sub reports.

Our subs are still in the Pearl Harbor area. We have a good day here. drat, this would have been a nice hit. Take that you sub! We take down another fighter. This is still the only air combat in the area. We smash up another small force. The subs were really busy today, but not much else happened.

Does the AI ever sortie in response to enemies? It seems from previous discussion that there's a preset schedule for attacks and the AI just throws more and more ships into each attack as the war goes on.

I was at my niece's first birthday over the weekend. She was lovely, but I am glad I could give her back and go home to where it is quiet. I brought her a drum, because I am an excellent uncle. You are doing fine.

We gave my older nephew a toy drum (it opened up and was full of other cheapo instruments, yay) for his probably third or fourth birthday, and my sister let him have it for a while and then quietly made it disappear. I think her theory was that once the newness wears off and the toy winds up on a shelf for a while, kids below a certain age don't really notice when those toys just aren't there any more. My role as an uncle was supposed to be corrupting my sister's kids, but then they both wound up having serious emotional problems and I don't get to do that.

Subs continue to be active. Wait! CARRIER! They actually sent out a carrier! The RAF continue to squander bombers. The lack of supplies is hurting the Chinese here. Once my main forces arrive, this will be a quick fight. I hope. I need to respond to the enemy carrier. Before this becomes worse. Its five days to early – even three more days would give me three more ships. This is a hard choice – all of these ships are low on planes, the ones under repair have been replenished first, and I made a rule never to split the KB – but there is an enemy carrier out there! We have to at least try!

Clunk! I try a bomber attack – it turns out to be a mistake. Our planes come in in waves, rather than one big attack. We do get some return kills however. The American flattop moves deeper into the Dutch East Indies – we may have a chance of getting her on her return journey. Until then, we just have to take this. Owch, that was a lot more planes lost than I thought! Carrier attacks hurt – thankfully, I've not had to be on the receiving end of many.

Get that carrier. Weird that the Allies are only sending out a single carrier like that. I'd never do a TF with less than 2.

It looks like you're sortie-ing out a small mixed fleet of fleet carriers and a CVE with only a slight numerical advantage compared to the Americans. Are you sure thats a good idea?

On the one hand, IJN damage control. On the other hand, 1942 American carrier planes. Could turn ugly for both sides.

Does this game in any way represent the Japanese doctrine of not even considering moving surviving planes from one carrier to another after one is sunk & the other's planes are wiped out?

By the time he reads this and can react to it, this event has faded into the past and now a new and completely unrelated Grey-brand Cockup is in progress. It's all very transcendental.

It's the player's choice how they want to assign squadrons between carriers. You can move them around if you want to. One strategy is to put together a carrier with only fighter squadrons on it and let it handle all CAP duties for the task force, then other carriers in the TF have the normal loadout and have their fighters entirely on escort duty with no CAP responsibilities.

He's two months late. It'll be August by the time any of these elements engage. That said, the CVE/CVL group isn't very useful in a Midway-like battle.

Pro music gift tip! Small metal tube xylophones. Give them to the relatives kids just as they are leaving for a long car journey. They are easily the loudest, piercingest, most annoying thing out there and are decently cheap ~ ~/~ Enemy carrier must be met with overwhelming force! Send out the Yamaoto and every destroyer too!
