You need to hop over to the rio thread to see what's going on with it, then - about half of the insane purposely-over-the-top bingo cards are already filled out before the games even began. The only proper word for the situation is "clusterfuck", this is nothing like china/russia/etc

I think one of the stadiums specifically built for the Sydney Olympics is actually being used so that should count as a success.

It kind of sucks for AFL, but they play a ton of rugby and soccer there.

That one image is the first time I've seen one in a while. You'd be surprised. Several of my female cousins got married and at every reception the groom was already joking about being tied down and poo poo like that. My friends are nowhere near getting married but even they make jokes about it when they have girlfriends. Maybe you're just lucky? My schadenfreude is that my boss got flung off her horse - on video! - and I can't sell it to Fail Army for sweet work cash. She was fine, but it's just rude to ask for the evidence of her funny tumble.

Vibrators were invented by doctors who were getting too tired quote:Necessity being the mother of invention, physicians began experimenting with mechanical substitutes for their hands. They tried a number of genital massage contraptions, among them water-driven gadgets (the forerunners of today's shower massage devices), and pumping, steam-driven dildos. But the machines were cumbersome, messy, often unreliable, and sometimes dangerous. Mods change my name to 'steam-driven dildo' TIA

Seems to me like the ball and chain joke when a dude is getting married is about as sincere as "he/she's in a better place" when someone dies. It doesn't matter if you know the person in grief is religious and it doesn't matter if the bride to be is actually controlling. Nobody actually gives a poo poo about you, or your marriage, or your dead relative. They're just filling the air, and getting offended by it is silly.

Wapole Languray posted:The issue is that most financially stable countries have figured out that the Olympics is a giant waste of time and money, leaving the bidding up to less stable countries who also generally happen to be riddled with hilarious amounts of corruption, which is why you get the shitshows we've seen with Sochi and Rio, and Beijing was real close to being the same except the Chinese government takes international face very seriously. Wondering if Tokyo and Pyeongchang will have good competent Olympics again, or will actually drop their hosting because of Rio. Tokyo will keep going with it. Japan is terribly proud of itself for winning the Olympic bid. So far the few hiccups they've had are they accidentally hired a serial plagiarist to make the logo and the stadium design competition has apparently been rigged so that only Japanese architects have a chance. If you've ever been to Tokyo though, you may have noticed that the city is already operating over capacity on a daily basis and I'm not quite sure what they're planning to do with the extra few hundred thousand people.

A Japanese friend of mine told me how she one time got on the subway during one those rush hours. When they started cramming people in, she was lifted from the floor of the cart. She was afraid her laptop got crushed in the writhing mass all around her. So she enjoyed the Danish transit system a lot more, even though it was not as reliable.

I already take the bus with people who stink of liquor, cigarettes, body order, and vomit on a day to day basis but thankfully, I don't have to be crammed in with them like a literal sardine. The Japanese transit system at rush hours sound hellish for that reason.
