I jumped out of my goddamn seat.

Ultra Despair Girls is bad and all but that twist was phenomenal. Also good to have confirmation on Juzo's forbidden action and it was cool that Grandpa became Jinpachi Mishima. Everything is really taking shape now, awesome stuff. Definitely hooked, especially seeing as how almost everyone is a horrible person and they're all murdering each other.

So, the traitor is revealed, but I don't think Monaca is the actual mastermind. I think they'll come out of left field. My friend is trying really hard to convince me it's Chiaki, based on how the entire thing is considered a "game" and how she's the least likely candidate among other things, but I don't want to believe this.

Still wish the blood was pink, though.

It's punching people in general. He kneed Mitarai, tried to hit Kyoko with a chair, and couldn't punch the chairman.

Not allowed to punch, period. He's been kicking people or throwing things at them ever since he read his forbidden action.

Well with this whole thing at least I think we know for 90% sure who made that whole Asahina "dying" thing I wouldn't be suprised that Monaca did that just because she wanted to see Naegi's despair face just for kicks but I don't think she's the traitor

And we saw Bandai's corpse so my Gozu theory already died...too bad I kinda liked it.

UDG, when not failing horribly at tackling the heavy adult themes of child abuse and child pornography, is aggressively boring in its gameplay. It is uncomfortable both to play and watch.

I enjoyed it for what it was, it wasn't great but I don't have anywhere near the level of hate for it that everyone else seems to.

It also has the completely nonsensical dancing monokuma scene which still makes me laugh.

Uh oh. Do I use Ariadne thread or Goho-M?

Well, here are my thoughts on the episode (ugh, I have to spoil speculation)

So Sakakura's forbidden action is the only one so far that actually relates to him. The other ones could be used for anyone else, not punching people affects him, since he was the former SHSL boxer.

Tengan isn't dead yet, so the one dead per episode theory is wrong.

I totally thought Tengan was the traitor until I saw he was about to die. The traitors in the first two games were both revealed before they died, so he can't be one.

So Fuyuhiko killed someone and wasn't punished for it. What the hell did those three do to get expelled!?

Gekkōgahara may be a robot (or has a robot eye at least) but I assume that she isn't the killing traitor. She is the equivalent of the security cameras from the games. There are a bunch of monitors, but no cameras, so something has to be recording, are else Monaca wouldn't be able to broadcast the killings. I think the killing traitor will be sent out when everyone is sleeping to move her right side up. Monaca can't do it as she isn't a part of the game.

Finally, since Monaca is the villian, that means my theory that Monokuma is the other Junko AI is wrong. I wonder what happened to that?

It was mine too. Like, if it weren't for that, the game would've only been mediocre at best, boring at worst. But by half-assing those themes it actually became offensively bad. That's not to say a game shouldn't ever touch upon a theme like that. There's certainly a place to try and make a game that tackles those issues but a Danganronpa game is not even the tenth place I would think of as a game or series to explore them in. Since it was done so poorly (and making a self-referential joke at the start of that molestation minigame to the tone of "oh you'll lose if you spend too long ogling at what's happening on screen" doesn't help) it actually became a worse game. I was ho-hum about the game before that minigame, but after it ended and until the end of the game I really did not care for it any longer. I kept playing just in case important overarching series plot details finally came up, not because I was actively enjoying myself.

It's too bad. There was potential for an okay game in there but it really just turned out to be a mediocre game with offensive themes that amounted to nothing more than shock value in the end. As it stands, anyone who hasn't played UDG is better off reading a plot summary.

Perhaps i'm naive but I'm assuming the Kuzuryuu crime family is above Hope's Peak or, at the very least, people they don't wanna gently caress with.

You could probably get away with watching a playthrough up to when Fukawa is introduced, then just skipping to the cutscene heavy portion of the last chapter. That should give you most of the relevant bits of the plot outside of a couple of relatives of SHSL-people being killed off.

BlazeEmblem posted:

The fact that a member of Kuzuryuu's family was killed at Hope's Peak would the academy on the family's bad side and looking the other way on the revenge squares things to some extent. However, Hope's Peak was also freaking out that their fragile system would fall apart before they could achieve their goal, to the point of sweeping murders under the rug. Thus they wanted to avoid punishing Kuzuryuu as it would also risk opening the whole incident up to the public.

All they needed to do was ask the homeroom teacher for the reserve course about Sato and Natsumi. The teacher would have said that the two have made death threats against each other, and it wouldn't be too hard to guess why Sato was killed after Natsumi was killed. There is almost no way that they didn't know who killed her.

FWIW, that was an embellishment on the part of the translator. The original said, "Note: Hagakure excluded, please understand.", where the "please understand" is the standard expression used when something is inconveniencing your customer.

I like Despair Girls more than most, but it's mostly to do with the road-trip-with-two-girls aspects of it. In particular, I really liked the tons of tons of text devoted to growing the bond between the two, most of it having nothing at all to do with the plot and tied to collectables and optional scenes. The stuff about child abuse and porn was misguided, I agree, but I think reading the game in its original language and understanding the state of debate about these subjects in Japan rather than in the west helps a little there too.

I mean, he's a good wee lad. Peko's the killer (in more ways than one)
