This is a ploy. It has to be. Parson suspects that Don King suspects that Charlie is actively plotting against Transylvito, so telling him Charlie is a Titan would possibly shake the Don's belief in the Titanic mandate to rule and possibly make him more favorable to positive dealings with Gobwin Knob.

This is going to come crashing down beautifully.

Or he's speaking metaphorically, given Charlie's rule breaking and his sigimancy that seems to say that Charlie Brown is older than a lot of the other references.

Or this is a test. Ansom always went on about Titanic Mandate when it came to the tools, the Royalists found that displeasing, Parson separates himself from the concept by affirming his mortality and then perhaps is spinning it metaphorically, that Charlie is Titanic in power, Gimmicked Portals, Fire Arms etc.

Thanks for that--I read it on my phone, so I didn't realize it was legible writing at all.

Also, "Charlie is a fallen titan who stole the Arkendish and plans to overthrow the other gods" is a hell of a gambit. I have no idea how it's going to work out, but it's pretty clever to take advantage of Charlie's air of mystique by defining him on Parson's own terms. (I think it came up in one of the early Book 2 text updates that GK sort of did this before, by claiming that Charlie was a Toolist as well, which meant no one in the RCC2 would even talk to him except Jillian.)

Well, Charlie can't counter it without revealing information about himself. The thing Charlie does not EVER want to do. While Parson knows that Charlie is just an Erfworlder who attuned, back when Warlady Judy was around.

Well then. It really exists and yeah it looks like the best OCR fit for the barely-legible word. I take it to mean Don King is bending his views around, from very hostile to GK to willing to entertain an alliance. Flexible wouldn't fit as well as it would mean he'd always be open to compromise rather than after being driven to it by circumstances (a very weakened position against an old enemy, tension with his chief warlord and head caster doubting his choices, and growing distrust of his protégée).

I'm also excited that they're going to just Metal Gear Solid their way out instead of negotiating. It means not getting the bracer back, but it seems like that was on the verge of becoming a deus ex machina anyway. Maybe they can croak Bill on the way to the portal.

I feel like they still have a chance at an alliance here. They bust out of TV, completely make them look like garbage, and then turn around and say "we still want to team up"? A pretty good sell for TV. Assuming, that is, that they don't piss off anyone on the way out.

For someone who was quick to push Ansom's buttons for an advantage, Parson seems unwilling to recognize that torture is his button and Transylvito was pushing it, even if unwittingly.

You don't need to trust someone to cut a deal, just stack the deal so they're unwilling to break it. That's been Charlie's modus operandi this whole time and it clearly works. As for whether it's strategically better to ally versus wipe out, allying is the better option because Charlie is knocking on the door. Even assuming you delete Transylvito off the map at zero cost, that's dozens if not hundreds of turns to resettle and build up the cities to their former productivity, meanwhile you're paying additional upkeep and getting diminishing returns due to faction size. Then there's the annoyance of kicking out anyone else rushing in to land grab and smoothing over diplomacy with other nearby factions (Jetstone), all while Charlie is studying your every move and funneling more money into Jillian who is now twice as likely to go on rampages. Not to mention missing out on being able to utilize the unique faction bonuses Transylvito has (natural flight, bat scouting) though I'm not sure if Parson is fully aware of those.

If Parson does go through with taking out Transylvito, he'd have to repatriate himself or he's screwed. No Transylvito means no portal to the MK, fugitive status means he has to forage for his own not-insubstantial rations, he's short on move to try and rejoin GK on foot and he's got nothing for defense besides potential gun(s) that are limited ammunition. Jillian is at large and going to want answers the moment she finds out Transylvito disappeared and Charlie is going to be all too happy to provide her some carefully crafted answers. Ace or Sizemore could enter Transylvito's portal to do the repatriation, but that's going to add fuel to an already hot situation there and GK doesn't want to risk losing any more casters at this point.

Poison Mushroom posted:

Jillian can do a lot of harassment, but she can't do crippling damage before Stanley just dumps money into giant garrisons of elves everywhere while he rolls in with a giant stack of dragons to clean house. The worst she can do is take Gobwin Knob in a surprise strike since it'd be a pain in the rear end to retake, but then she has the problem of being spread thin to defend everything with a single hex pass making for a prime ambush point if she gets baited towards one city or another.

The MK portal works both ways when it comes to an impending attack by Charlie. Veiled archons can ambush people escaping through it, so it's a bit of a false safety.

This is a weird parallel to draw. Parson exploited Ansom's pride. Caesar burned Parson and beat him so hard his ribs broke. The situations aren't really comparable in any sense. Parson's not getting righteously offended and indignant about torture in the abstract, he's pissed because he almost bled to death on a cold dungeon floor. (And the same thing or worse happened to his two best friends.)

Anyway, I have no idea where this is going to go. Janis getting ready to cast a peace spell over the Magic Kingdom feels like the real gun loaded over the fireplace here, though.

Parson is within one or two turns of flight distance from GK though, it's said to be on the other side of a mountain range separating the two cities. With practically unlimited treasury he can fly dwagons with troops in, promote them to knights and arm them with guns in addition to upgrading the city into a level 5 fortress. Not to mention Jillian probably isn't even attacking Transylvito.

It's a parallel because Parson's off his game now. He's considering a decision because of morals and not because of tactical or strategic considerations; actions that would directly go against his previous attempts to make friends, all because he's taking things personally. He's already forgetting that his real fight is with Charlie who is two steps ahead, and knocking out Transylvito isn't going to give him an edge there.

Parson is near GK but Stanley with all the dragons is not. Dragons are a little limited since Charlie had been neutralizing wild spawns and then they lost a bunch taking Jetstone; you could relay a couple of troops at a time but I doubt there's enough for moving armies. Jillian shouldn't be hitting Transylvito, but I think it's safe to say that when she hears that the guy who has essentially been her mentor when it comes to leading a side just got offed, and she just happens to be in the air with a stack big enough to take a capital city in range of where he happened to die she's going to investigate, especially if Charlie phones in with a little prod. How many things can come out of nowhere and knock out a side in one turn? It'd need to be something big and fast, right? Say, a stack of dragons and an artifact hammer, maybe with a Master-class Foolamancer to hide the approach? And Jillian would buy it because it's precisely what she would do if she had the same tools at her disposal.

I agree with you, but I think it's worth pointing out that in recent updates the images haven't always strictly depicted what the narrative explicitly said: The image at the end of 180 showed the MaggieDoll escorting Parson & Jack out of their cells, but the narration for that update ended with Parson's bewildered confusion at the approaching doll.

Edit: The image on 182 clearly shows Parson in the forefront with a contemplative (if brutal) look on his face. There's no way it could be anything -but- him imagining it.

Yeah and this runs counter to Parson's own "Don't look like the most dangerous player on the board." He has a chance to really make GK look on the level, this would not work in the long term, and it might not work in the short term. Not only would he gently caress over Wanda in the Magic Kingdom during a situation that's already bad for her. Making GK a complete Pariah even more than they already are. Maggie needs to convince him otherwise.

Idle thought: assuming Parson has the authority to do so normally (since he lost Chief Warlord status when he was Turned to Charlie and it was never reinstated), can he actually issue orders to Maggie-doll? It's technically a Transylvito unit, since it can interfere with Molls without problem.

Bonus thought: would it be possible to reassign the strings connecting units, likely with the aid of the Arkenpliers? For example, cut out Maggie from the Doll-Maggie-Jed chain and have Jed control the doll directly.

Infinite Move and Teleportation are super strong strategic powers. As long as you have units doing stuff you don't have to end turn right? Unknown you can't just idle but given subjective Erfworld time, Infinite Move seems awesome.
