I think the Japan discussion is relevant to show why we have nukes and their purpose. - using them demonstrated their power beyond doubt - it ended the war - it saved countless troop lives and while all lives are precious a countries duty is to protect its own citizens first - it arguably saved Japanese civilian lives since only two cities were destroyed instead of having troops rape pillage and burn through the entire country They are NOT a first option or even 10th option but they have a purpose for being in our arsenal

I actually sort of recognize the point "why are we making them if we're not going to use them" although the definitely help with power projection etc... but then coming off the top rope with "so why can't we use them" is just 👌👏🏼

Agreed, however the second tweet seems like an awfully infirm (very hedging choice of words by the Trump rep) rejection of the idea that Trump is considering dropping out independent of the "intervention." Meaning there might be a slight sliver of a chance that he actually will drop out, meaning But I am just fiending drama at this point, pay me no mind if you wish

Arrgytehpirate's opinion on the use of the atom bomb in WW2 is probably not all that well thought out by him personally, but it's not exactly an unusual opinion to have. Even a lot of Japanese are sympathetic to it, but honestly the way the Japanese relate to the atomic bombings is sort of weird anyway. At the very least it was a war crime in a war filled with war crimes. Where it lands on the scale of how bad a war crime is, I'm not going to bother posting here since who loving cares anyway - nowadays once nukes are in the air all belligerents have effectively lost. (And yes, that includes first-striking a nation without nuclear weapons since weakening the nuclear taboo is not worth any gain the attacking nation could hope to achieve, even from the standpoint of naked self-interest.)

What has to be going through their heads as they chant "HATE WILL WIN" because I can't imagine a more disgusting and soul crushing moment than that. They have to be thinking "I am on the side of hate and I want to be there." At least the racists usually pretend it isn't hate but fear or tradition or some poo poo. This is verbally affirming being on the side of hate.
