We should have some kind of "It Gets Better" video series for people in your situation. You should start a countdown of episodes until Roddenberry loses his grip over the series.

Season 2 is going to have some of the most loved and hated episodes, so hold on. There's a lot of Real Sci-Fi stuff about the nature of life and sentience, probably more than any other run in Star Trek History. And they start characterizing Picard consistently!

It's a combination of TNG advancing the tech to near-magic levels (the reason it'd be so hard to advance that timeline much further, unless you go all Roger Zelazny), the show being fundamentally episodic in nature and rarely revisiting anything, and the decree that the Federation have no arguments or disputes.

The ST universe seems to be a hyper-evolved leftist liberal-socialist society. Mind-wiping for "the greater good of pre-warp civizilations" was the least of it. Hell, they even introduced the leftist concept thread of mankind-ruins-environment, that most people have had to deal with in recent times (prohibition, overpopulation/hunger, ozone holes, global warming, climate change) with the warp drives damaging subspace. That's what I've always disliked about Roddenberry's view of the future in TNG. I've always thought that DS9's more centric and religious undertones better reflect what a future mankind working with alien populations on the farther reaches of space would be like.

Logically speaking the Federation's gotta have some kind of a Psi Corps, and Troi would have actually been improved, probably, if she was the psi agent on board. Which HAPPENED to include, primarily, counseling and therapy, BUT ALSO some of the stuff she did in S6 and S7 when they put her in the uniform.

I wouldn't say that's "logically speaking" at all, considering that Babylon 5 straight-up said that Psi Corps was the worst way to go about handling telepaths, and none of the alien powers were shown to have similar organizations.

In at least one version of the Legion of Super-Heroes, people from Saturn Girl's planet have to wear badges that identify them as telepaths.

Yes, the last time people were made to wear a badge to identify what minority they were on this planet ended really well.

I mean some kind of organization for the study and use of telepathic abilities. I never watched much B5 myself.

Like in this setting, psionics would just be another form of science, probably some kind of neurophysics thing.

You know, one of the smartest things the writers ever did was invent "quad" for a unit of storage and didn't explain it beyond that. Otherwise, I'm sure all references to data storage would be hilariously dated right now.

I remember in the novelization of ST:II, they were trying to figure out what to leave Khan instead of the Genesis data. On of the scientists had a game that they had developed that they were going to dump into the main computers. It was mentioned that the game was 50mb and the other characters were astonished, "Christ on a crutch, the program that ate Saturn!"

Maybe their data compression got really good.

I kind of feel like they couldn't really figure out what to do with one season and a new character with Dax's legacy attached to her, so they just said "eh, she's unsure of herself and the world now."

You know, despite the fact she's now partially a multi-lifetimed near-immortal who's gotten several people before her through the whole personality-fusing thing before.

The character's weak but at least Nicole de Boer tried.

I think the big problem with Ezri is they had to introduce a new main cast member in the very last season and they were in a rush to flesh her out. It would have been better if she was introduced earlier or not at all. Of course, Terry Farrell decided to quit the show so it couldn't really be helped, but they could have just not replaced her. They didn't really feel a need to give us a Tasha Yar 2.0 as a member of the main cast. Sure, Denise Crosby showed up again a few times, but that's because she regretted leaving the show once it started getting good.

A lot of goons seem to have the hots for Ezri though which is really weird because she looks like a 12 year old boy to me. Insert Aatrek joke here. Jadzia was a pretty lame character but she was very easy on the eyes at least. Leeta was the hottest, though.

Yeah, Dax was boring as poo poo and any dax-heavy episodes had me snoring. Ezri at least tried to be a chracter with some flaws and stuggles and was also much more attractive which is apparently a very important point but a useless point because Nana Visitor destroyed everyone else like they were civilian collateral damage in a terrorist bombing.

Yeah, Jadzia is hands down the most boring character of DS9's main cast. I think she is a pretty lady, but she came without a personality installed. Jadzia beat Ezri in the looks department, but that's it - Ezri is actually the better character because she has... well... character.

I just think Ezri would have been better if they killed off Jadzia earlier and didn't have to spend half of the final season establishing her character. I think she was just introduced to the show too late in its lifespan. It might have been best to just let the symbiote die with Jadzia, or have the next host be a minor or offscreen character so Dax is pretty much dead as far as the audience is concerned.

One of the weakest things in DS9, to me, is the Dax-Worf relationship. It suffers from the same thing the O'Briens do in that you basically never see them enjoying each others' company or being happy in their marriage. Almost every time we see them together, they're fighting, and as a result I just see no chemistry between them.

I used to work with Avery Brooks' college roommate at Oberlin and he said his girlfriend was also hot, remembered her name and I looked it up and it was his wife. And she looks like she was probably hot back in the day.

And that's my famous person story.

See also: Kirk and Spock in the JJ movies \ Obi-Wan and Anakin in the Star Wars prequels. Okay, so it's not a romantic relationship (at least not with Anakin and Obi-Wan, Kirk\Spock is up to debate) but you catch my drift.
