I'm real happy i can forget who Chris Evans ever was again and can stop holding my breath! Longest running defence of Nuovo Top Gear seems to be "Well, would you rather not have ANY (or MORE) shows about cars and automotive funaningans? On TV or The Internet?" Sure. But lets not accept this prison food of a programme as anything less than the gruel it is. Can we get some real car shows please? Like when Next Generation Top Gear did road trips. Or workshop arcanery like MightyCarMods, HotRodGarage, ProjectBinky, AddYourShowHere. High budget, fine, or low budget. A person, more persons, (not, or) a convoy of filmcrew, mechanics, and backup cars, or just a gopro and some tripods. Mattres in a boot, or actually they stay in a nearby hotel lol job security. Some real experiences and commentary. Or scripted events. You dont have to sell a car at every opportunity, if the panels blow off in a breeze thats bad, but if it gets you there and back thats good! I would put my money on a car that doesnt break down within a week of (any sort of) use. So theres your ad revenue DONT THINK ABOUT IT James May level of indepth washer material and construction tidbittery, and David Freiburger car hoods obstruct cooling logics. Opinons beyond "whooooa waaaah wohohooo". Who cares if it's live or not, nothing is ever truly unedited. I want more car shows really bad you guys. Edit; Sure hope this post didnt suck.

Leper Go-getter posted:Edit; Sure hope this post didnt suck. I've got bad news for you. Top Gear was great because it seemed so natural, but in fact it was very planned and edited, and executed by a team of very skilled professionals. Look at all the complete dreck there is on YouTube about cars and "challenges" and travel. Look at all the complete garbage that actually makes it to TV (at least in Canada). Clarkson, Hammond and May were important, but they couldn't have done what they did without the rest of the people who worked on the show. It's like Anthony Bourdain. He's a funny guy and a good presenter, but his show would be poo poo and garbage without (especially) the cinematography and all the other behind-the-scenes stuff.

The thing is Clarkson was known for working the script until it was tight and had a team of writers and good co presenters. Nu-top gear had none of that.

Noone is arguing about whether Top Gear was or is scripted anymore. There was scripts and there was fun. Scripts are fine. Bad scripts are bad, bad actors are bad. You should buy a Fiesta if you want to race through a mall. Made up but good see? But they cant just sit in car and shout. Unless theres no sound deadening. Or windows.

That's why we can't and shouldn't just hope for "more car shows" because if you lack the good writers and good presenters and the budget to do things properly, it will be poo poo. There's already plenty of car shows on TV and youtube that I don't watch because they're complete and utter poo poo. Why on god's green earth would we want more of them?

Hell there's enough good ones that I don't have time to watch them all. I think the current state of automative media is pretty good, especially now that Evans has been booted out of it.

There's a lack of Top Gear happening right now so I decided to check out this series made entirely in Grand Theft Auto 5. Well, I didn't actually watch the whole thing but i skimmed through it because it's a fun concept. It would have been better if they had more GTA wackiness going on but they played it relatively straight, right down to the players driving a reasonably priced car around the airport and comparing times. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7p9moZLVcfA

I actually hollered "gently caress yeah" when they actually accomplished what they set out to do in the recent Roadkill. I wasn't expecting that at all. e; speaking of youtube car shows, Project Binky has a new episode out today/tomorrow depending on when you read this.

Apparently Richard "Sniff Petrol" Porter has taken up his old TG role of script editor for The Grand Tour - he linked on Twitter to a Sunday Times article he wrote about his Defender which mentioned it in his bio. He's kept it very quiet until now, and I guess it means he's patched things up with Clarkson after being pretty scathing about his post-fracas behaviour in the last chapter of his book.

Did anyone read it as being "pretty scathing?" TBQH I thought he was pretty reasonable. Clarkson did punch a guy at work.

Any chance of Ken Block's Mustang in the series? It was my favorite part of the new series because it reminded me of Medusa from Bellflower a few years back. It's so over the top insane that I'd love to see their reaction to it
