You're correct that everything was present in the game without needing the regional PSN, you could also buy stuff from the store with real money (treasure boosters) and you didn't get access to the day one Build Fighters Try stuff, which was a boon. This time around you'll miss out on the Barbatos day one, though you can collect it in the game.
