Good to know.

I mean, did you forget the Mario romhack takedown videos, or the copyright takedowns or any of the other internet controversies that they've been involved in? This isn't new and shouldn't have been unexpected by anyone.

VIZ put out a new edition of Shotaro Ishinomori's Zelda comic (also from Nintendo Power) last year, so it was only a matter of time until they did the same for Super Mario Adventures.

No sign of the Star Fox or Super Metroid comics yet, but those were sorta lousy anyway.

I'm sure they mentioned it (maybe unofficially) several months ago, but I could be mixing that up with the Zelda mangas or some other thing. People have been chasing a lot of that stuff (the Mother 2 manga in particular) for years.

It's probably because they're a beloved game company that still makes excellent games and most people either don't know or care about their internet copyright policies.

Nintendo hasn't released any new Metroid games for people to boycott since well before the last Metroid anniversary.

That being said, there's a new Metroid game out next week that I guarantee will get the reception it "deserves".

It's much more likely that Nintendo is still enforcing their copyrights because they are pretty strict about them and afraid about people stealing them away.

I don't think it's even about stealing them. It's that even more than most companies, they're defined by the extended aspects of their IP. People aren't buying a billion dollars in Call of Duty merchandise, to use a convenient example. So that makes Nintendo a bit more defensive about their IP than most.

It's a lot like Disney in that regard.

To change the subject; I'm closing in on finishing Devil May Cry after years of bouncing off of it in the first stage or two. Maybe I'll actually finish Viewtiful Joe next...

The scans are off of Retromags proper for the time being but there's a big up to date torrent on the forums there that's easy to find.

When I found out that Compile released almost forty Disc Stations on the MSX, it was like I'd stumbled into an alternate reality where cupcakes grew on trees.

I like Aleste Gaiden a lot more than it might deserve. It's slow and a little awkward compared to other Compile shooters, but it has a neat style somewhere between a PC Engine game and a late NES release.

My nearly complete set of disc stations is the one part of my MSX stuff I didn't sell, because they're just too rad and come with booklets full of art and stuff, one of em has TGL concept art. though like an idiot I sold the actual compile MSX games I had: aleste, aleste 2, puyo puyo, girly block, yuureikun (tho its inconclusive if they actually developed this, people seem to think so. it's not in the complete compile book tho. still a really awesome game)

Talking about the Analog NTs, I thought they were buying all the yellowed Famicoms no one else wants to buy for their boards? I don't have a problem with that really. I've seen Famicom's that look like they were played by a person playing Dragon Quest in long sessions constantly chain smoking and then buried in the dirt for 20 years.

I just looked up eBay for an example:

This can be yours for a starting bid of 5 USD!

Edit: More horror shows:

And can we start "Consoles that look like Donald Trump"?

On another note about Nintendo taking down the NP mags and Metroid alterations: much like Blizzard serving C&Ds to people running vanilla WoW servers against the cries of its fanbase, the matter was "protecting their intellectual property rights", trying to discourage others from doing this, instead of condoning by means of inaction.

It makes sense, but it makes them a business, not an rear end in a top hat.

I was really excited when the comic started, but it turned out pretty weak. The original characters were dumb, the comic rushed everything at the end, and it ruined the game's best moment: instead of sacrificing itself to save Samus, the Hatchling (aka THE BABY) gets zapped by a fat police chief.
