The army is actively pushing people out to reduce force structure. TDAs and MTOEs are shrinking and positions that used to be 80-90% promotion rates are dropping south of 60% promotion. Multiple policies have come out expressly to kick anyone out without squeaky clean records. The army isn't struggling with keeping NCOs and officers*, if anything it's the opposite in that more want to stay than there's room for. Points are pretty nuts for SSG and above in a lot of MOS's, so you get a lot of people stuck at SPC and SGT just hoping a motherfucker would quit the army or get in trouble. If you don't attend NCO schools on time or fail a school, you're basically hosed (a deferment isn't the end of the world if it's for a profile, but it's a big deal if you defer twice). On the other hand, some MOS's have big bonuses, but recruiting command just can't get young people to sign up, because they've seen how much being at war can suck, and the economy isn't straight loving wrecked like it was in 2008. *there's some struggle to keep the "right" NCOs/officers mlmp08 fucked around with this message at 18:33 on Aug 9, 2016 |

I know the Army Reserve has a massive retention problem right now. Unlike the active component, they weren't told to downsize; however, people are getting out anyway because lol gently caress this.

Is there a way I can get an honorable out before my end of contract in two years? I'm so loving over this poo poo and I don't want to be a lovely leader because I don't care about the games anymore. I'm serious I'm tired, angry, frustrated and genuinely talk myself out of just doing something awful simply because I know it would just make everything worse for everyone.

Best platoon I was ever in was the battalion scouts. We got treated like adults. Things were fun. None of that stupid "let's sit around until 1700 because we have nothing to do but we can't leave yet." Dudes were allowed to bring tents bought at Dick's Sporting Goods to overnight ranges. My PSG even brought a Mac 10. When all of the shooting was done, some dudes took the Humvee for a beer run. Best NCOs I've ever had. Best PL I ever had (he left us the gently caress alone and joined us when he needed to, but left everything up to his NCOs as far as training and range time). I understand a lot of privates need their hands held, but if more platoons were like that one, the army would loving own and I would probably still be in.

Yeah, at least in the Reserve it's really hard to chapter someone for height/weight or PT failure. Company level leadership inevitably fucks up the paper trail (counselings not done, PT cards missing, never actually put on the body composition program, etc.) and the part-time SJA at the two star level doesn't feel like wasting time sifting through all of it instead of processing separation packets for people who failed drug tests or were convicted of crimes by civilian courts.

Three separate times. I talked for a bit, got nothing accomplished, and got no callbacks. I was never referred, never seen or treated for anything. The best I ever got was some off-post therapy from Military One Source that lasted for about eight sessions before I had to deploy. I felt as if I was making progress, and I don't have to come back to my house to end up screaming into a pillow to vent my rage. Behavioral Health in the Army is a loving mess that, as it is now, is a waste of money that only threatens to end careers if anyone catches wind of it. Hooah, drive on, what the gently caress is your problem pussy?!

behavioral health in the army is also EXTREMELY variable from place to place. Some posts, 90% of those going to BH are very thankful and actually do better, whether staying in or getting out. Other places I hear insane  stories or even deal personally with a doctor acknowledging that they're too burnt out to give a gently caress.And of course command reaction matters. Had an NCO absolutely shocked that after he got involuntarily committed for a couple weeks that when he came back he wasn't immediately railroaded by every single officer and NCO in the chain.

From my experience, unless your problem is related to deployment casualties, guilt over things you did to your fellow man or TBI you can't get any help in that dump. The CG was down for school drops and work drops when I was still there 2 years ago, gently caress if I know if he's still current. Get started on a packet, I saw a dude get out 4 months early plus his leave time he saved up for going to community college in his home state. Not like you need to apply to a major university or anything. The only thing that can stop you is if your unit is on some readiness level for rapid deployment, your MOS is undermanned in your unit, you have some critical school the unit is dependent on, or your unit is full of the same human being culture of fear where god forbid theres red on our power point slides that go up the chain that plagues the place.

I forgot to salute a total of one time my entire career. I had a tripod and a camera also so it's not like I was doing it to be a dick.
