Yeah, there's a reason why no one ever recommends the Maoyuusha novels. Maybe you can justify it by saying it's written like a play, but it still takes genuine work to read it and visualize what's going on. Though I love how no one in the series has an actual name. Everyone's running around introducing themselves as Merchant, Crimson Scholar, Hero, etc. The Maoyuu Maou Yuusha - "Be mine, Hero" "I refuse!" manga version is definitely the best one. filthychimp fucked around with this message at 07:58 on Aug 6, 2016 |

Though in a sense that does justify it to be more like a play, I guess, more like the author really did not care for making names and instead used JRPG titles. I could say that he's much better in Log Horizon, if not for the fact that practically no one is translating the Light Novels, his current legal status is shrouded in mystery and the whole fandom seems dead. 100% recommend this version. Mostly because it's the one that's the furthest in the story. But bear in mind, the last issue that was translated, was last year December 7th. Good luck finding the raws if you can read japanese. I had no clue there was a manga, and I am extremely excited about reading This translation that I found on Kissmanga. Seriously, thank you guys! Edit: Oh my god, this is so much better it's almost impossible to compare the two. I'm talking apples and oranges here, folks. vs. quote:The Demon King: “Would this Lab Coat and Robe do?” Edit: Getting back to the point of the thread, I gave the first three chapters of Everyone Else is a Returnee a read, and while it's way too early to make a judgement call on the series I like what I've seen so far. Basic plot is that Earth is about to evolve into a planet that can support magic and monsters and all those good fantasy elements, but it'd be dangerous as hell for humans to have all that dropped on them, so god teleports all of humanity to safer, mana-using planets to learn the basics of fantasy survival from the other world inhabitants. All of humanity except for one unlucky korean dude, who suddenly finds himself alone in the world. An angel appears, describes the situation, and says basically "You're not gonna die, time is semi-stopped so you won't age, but since we can't send you to another world you're going to need to train yourself here to survive." Since there's no mana yet, he can't learn any magic, so he has to do things the hard way. After ten years, he learns enough martial arts to defend himself. After 50 years, he's basically unstoppable. After hundreds of years, a trip around the world, learning every language, hunting down every species on the planet, he's running out of things to do to keep himself sane. quote:“When! I! Read! Fantasy! Novels! They! All! Learn! Skills! Easily! But! Why! Can! I! Not! Do! Anything! Easily!?” This is all pretty much introductory, the story doesn't really start until chapter 4, which isn't translated yet, when supposedly everyone will return to the planet and life will start back up. Who knows where the story will go, but I like the author's writing style and I have great expectations towards how a character who has been basically alone for a millennia will deal with the return of all of humanity. If anyone can read Korean, Munpia has up to Chapter 5 available untranslated for free. Like I said, almost certainly too early to tell, but I like what little I've seen and I'm hoping I'm not hyping up a horrible flop. I had some boring time at my parents this weekend, so i read some more Reincarnated as a monster novels because thats apparently totally my thing. The best of what i read was Semi Datte Tensei Sureba Ryuu Ni Naru It's a bittersweet story about Cicada that reincarnates as Dragon. It's a bittersweet story about making friends. It seemed in the beginning that it would turn into furry smut but it didn't, so keep reading. The whole story has this great childrens book feeling, i feel like it could be ghibli movie. I've also been reading Goblin Kingdom Which starts out a bit like Slime tensei does with the main char (in this case a goblin) starting his own village, but while Slime is horrendously overpowered straight from the start, this goblin is only a tad OP, bringing the story a tad more suspense. Annointed posted:A manga series that no one is translating and a one cour anime that hardly covers any significant portion of the work. Though I do recommend reading the manga series if you want less narration, the visualization that comes with being a manga comic cuts a poo poo ton of narration needed. Visualizations can just be drawn and and tones can be expressed by fonts, framing of the panel and their facial expressions. The manga series isn't being translated because there are already legal, official translations on Bookwalker: https://global.bookwalker.jp/series/21530/ I've been hoping they would show up on some other service, I don't really want to sign up for Bookwalker just for that, but they do exist.

ISSTH spoilers if you want them: He makes 2 techniques, one is a karma based technique that extracts promissory notes from people, the other is (I'm translating this according to the words DB have used) an 'exalted paragon art' based off the paramita bridge. There is no 100th location, the pavilion is a storage room that reveals itself to give him a reward because he made an 'exalted paragon art' (he then cons the pavilion).

I've not seen the anime, but I looked up the episode synopsis, and it seems like it just kind of... dead-ends? It looks like they cram 12 volumes worth of plot into 12 episodes, but since there's 16 volums worth of story it looks like it just kind of stops right after the Kulurtai which is a really weird place to end things. It still seems like it might be worth watching, though. It looks like Crunchyroll has subbed episodes. Edit: I've been giving 21st Century Archmage a shot, and while it's kind of a little bland I do really like some of the recurring gags. quote:"Wait! Please wait!" I called out to Bumdalf, who had frighteningly raised a staff while wearing a wicked smile. "This went through a safety inspection, right?" quote:"Um, Master..." Serious Frolicking posted:unfortunately the other reincarnated as a monster wn's are all pretty bad Truth to this. Slime started off ok, but gets real weird real fast. Re:Monster goes full-throttle rape really loving fast. Dragon Egg is kind of ok for a bit, but suffers from the author writing the protag as either incredibly clever, or mind-numbingly stupid depending on what the plot requires, and it descends into pseudo misery porn eventually. Bones and Vampire (both being translated on Shinsori.com) are kind of ok, they're just really shallow and... I guess fluffy would be the word? They're also both barely translated, maybe two dozen chapters between the two. Shinsori also translated Undead Seeks Warmth which is alright, but not great. I like Demon Girl but it suffers from the same problem as Bones, in that it only has like 9 chapters translated so far. Your best bet is gonna be Captain Duck's recommendations. I haven't read Cicada, so I can't speak to it, but Goblin Kingdom is pretty alright and so far seems blessedly rape-free. If you want to consider demon reincarnation the same as monsters, there's a few good options there. We've talked about Dungeon Defense, with it's sociopathic MC before. There's also Reincarnated into Werewolf, which is at 18 chapters so far. It's not a deep story, but it's readable. And my personal recommendation, Yuusha Party, which is drat good. Main character reincarnates as an incredibly overpowered demon lord, but doesn't want to do anything, so he just apathetically swats away the hero party until he falls in love with the party's healer. And if you really want to stretch, there's always I was a sword when I reincarnated and Reincarnated as a vending machine. They should need no explanation.

Taint isn't a reincarnation novel, though. Edit: In other news, I appear to have been reincarnated as a love interest in an otome game is starting to git gud. The story kicked off pretty basic, prince realizes he's a reincarnated person inside a dating game, and he actually kind of hates the heroine and is in love with the bad guy, his fiance. He resolves to not let the heroine steal him away. Then poo poo gets real, and it turns out the game actually had spinoffs, and they're all kind of blending together. Including one where everyone is gay. Now the psycho dude that everyone is scared of has revealed he wants a taste of that sweet prince rear end. Captain Bravo posted:Taint isn't a reincarnation novel, though. Well, she does technically die and wakes up as a monster, just in her own modified body (not spoilering this, because it happens early enough to be mentioned in the official synopsis). But it's really more the tone of her internal monologues, and generally being about a girl turning into an antisocial, overpowered murderhobo, that's very similar to Kumo.

kumoko has a lot of disparate parts which come together well. there is the monster thing, the rpg stuff, kumoko's endearingly insane personality, the mysterious setting that was very slowly revealed, and finally the overarching plot about the end of the world. most of the imitators just take the first two and then add in a bunch of creepy poo poo they are into.

While I thank you for the information, I was angling towards someone linking me to finished translations, lol. Edit: Gonna give a shout-out here for a series I would never have expected to actually like, How to Kill Reincarnators from Earth. The description on NovelUpdates does not do it justice, it's basically a straight-up send-up of reincarnated harem novels. It's clever, it's fun, and despite being a pervert the main character isn't nearly as annoying as most MC's. Plus the translation is pretty drat good. quote:“But um … I really have to go …” I highly recommend giving it a shot. The hooks don't take long, the story reveals its cards within the first few chapters so it doesn't take long to figure out if you're going to like it or not. Edit: Let me revise that, the translation is goddamned fantastic. If not for the fact that NovelUpdates explicitly says it is translated from Japanese I would think this is a completely english novel. quote:” … you know the thing is, Motoki, I made light of you, I thought you won’t be able to go all the way with another woman since you’re a chicken, wahahaha. Something like that. Then you went ahead and gave Ruby a tumble or three. Now you’re starting to lay your hands on the next girl and so I thought, crap, isn’t this going to be the one where the first girl, that’s me, gets hosed and chucked away? So you see, I thought, maaaybe I should give you a bit of a freebie” Edit again: Oh my god I love this story. quote:Well, there’s no use trying to smooth things over so I wrote them down as-is. Even more edit: Guys, seriously, it's really good quote:I know, if it’s all right with you why don’t we talk about what your dreams are? One thing I find funny about the "reincarnated into an otome game" stories is that otome games have drawn characters yet the protagonists are supposedly from the real world, so basically they're not only reincarnated into an alternate world, but an alternate 2D world (or else it wouldn't make sense for them to recognize the characters). It's especially jarring when the characters rarely seem to care about people having blue/pink/etc hair (though it is sometimes mentioned; I think Ascendance of a Bookworm comments on it).
