Beelzebozo posted:Holy poo poo are you in for a treat. Good timing, too. It came out back in February but just got added to streaming services last week. Yeah this album is great. Got to see those guys with Born of Osiris, Veil of Maya, and Erra a couple months back and they were by far the best of the night. This was like 3 or 4 days after the album came out but had been streaming on YouTube for a little while so I was jamming it out leading up to the show. They also played Berzerker and Aspirations off of Rareform, which my favorite release of theirs so that was awesome. Just wish they got to play longer than 30 minutes. Erra was pretty good too. Born of Osiris headlined and played for like 2 hours and holy poo poo it was so boring. I think I have a threshold for chugga chugga rhythms and while After the Burial is in the sweet spot, Born of Osiris is so far past it now that I can't even listen to them anymore.

Kumbamontu posted:I hate The Acacia Strain with every ounce of my being so I guess sometimes you Just Don't Like A Thing I can't even process this as a concept but that's what's beautiful about opinions! This year my favorite new release has been Despised Icon, and I'm excited about the forthcoming On Broken Wings, Acacia Strain, and the almighty ETID. Allegedly Obey the Brave have a new one coming this year as well, which I know I'll love. I forgot the new KSE even existed until someone posted about it. I listened to it once and it just kind of disappeared from my brain.

I can't stand Despised Icon either, so ymmv for sure when it comes to music opinions Agreed on KSE though. It's not that the songs are bad, they're just entirely forgettable. I've listened to it probably 3 times in full and I cannot think of a single riff or moment from it.

I don't like Despised NOR Acacia! High fives for opinions all around! I've found some new music this year, but it was all stuff released a year or more ago. ETID and DEP will change that though.

Despised Icon's earlier stuff never really did it for me, but I'm liking their new one a lot.

As much as I like TAS, I've never cared for their covers. I think they did one for Call of Duty or some other boring war game? Black Sabbath? Covers are stupid. Truth be told, I heard their original track from this thing and it's definitely my least favorite single of theirs. Ah well.

Saw ETID again last night. They slayed, per usual. Was nice to see them in a small, tightly packed club instead of loving Warped Tour. Split my shin open sumthin' fierce on the edge of the stage. Also, they only played two tracks off The Big Dirty, so some of y'all would have enjoyed that.

New(ish) music that takes me back to that era is this album that came up on my Discover Weekly this week. It loving crushes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zOeqbDJMLQA Also lol you idiots, Trivium and Bullet for My Valentine are the most poo poo-trash bands to ever be slightly associated with -core, and that It Dies Today song is from the wrong album if you're looking for their best stuff. Don't you guys know anything?

counter-point: Trivium's discography pre Vengeance Falls is cool and good. Vengeance Falls was an abortion and I like to pretend it doesn't exist. Only listened to the recent weird power metal-ish album once He asked for "poo poo that brings me back to 2004ish" which, while The Catliff Choir is probably a better example for some people, I didnt know about that album until way after I listened to Sirens re: BFMV - The Poison and Scream Aim Fire are both very good. Venom was okay. Fever and Temper Temper are hot steaming piles of garbage.
