In high school I was a soccer referee for a year and had to ref a lot of games between young children and can confirm this is the case, but I don't see any robot parents making the whole event lovely for everyone involved

Half a billion dollars to stress test and they STILL fell to a DDOS? I mean, somewhere like Blizzard probably gets that much malicious traffic every day of the week and I'd feel safe to say their safeguards do not cost in the areas of half a billion to protect from this sort of thing for what was supposed to be a day.
