But it's not just a matter of "this is a weird mechanic, lets make it make sense!" Doing that would be a disaster. It has to be done in tiny steps. And it has been. Even "small" things like orb mechanics haven't been changed in one fell swoop, it's been a very gradual shift towards being intuitive

I'm so bad that I'm paired with people who sit and take blasts to the face from an enemy tower repeatedly. To try and win, I have to ask these people if they're aware that they can manually attack one of their own creeps to lose the towers focus. And I have to do this in a way that I don't look like a know it all or make them feel stupid. The real source of the problem is that lots of people don't know that you can make a tower stop killing you by directly attacking a friendly creep. The tower logic is what it is because it's set up to mimic Warcraft 3, and the intimate details of how they work are collected only on third party wikis. You will just take damage or die to towers needlessly unless somebody else (in my case, it was a video with either Purge or Tobi made for newbies) tells you that you can do that. It's not logical that attacking your own forces makes towers change targets, and it's not explained, it's just an anachronism from some Blizzard coding 14 years ago. If they broke from Warcraft 3 tradition and just made towers target creeps automatically, newbies wouldn't take damage needlessly because of their lack of knowledge, and experts would see no difference since they were never taking this damage anyway.
