I ate actual sardines this morning They were the red swedish fish, yeah. It just seemed really gross. I was wary on describing it as 'fishy' but that's seriously what it tasted like.

So, I saw the swedish fish oreos at the store about 30 minutes ago, and I bought them because of this thread. First off, the bag around the container doesn't have an easy-open flap so my American sensibilities were instantly violated. Next is the smell; the cookies smell like months-old gummy halloween candy. The taste is kinda nonexistent, about as noticeable as normal oreos, but with a very sharp cherry candy aftertaste. I like em actually, but I would not recommend them. 2/5

There's no taste to them other than the overwhelming sweetness that lingers on the palate forever. on a related note, after hearing Americans rave about Ben & Jerry's for years, I once tried some of their ice cream with chunks of cookie dough, and getting through the dough bits was like trying to chew sugar-infused tar sludge, no edible substance should have either that sort of consistence, or taste. It also literally made me sick.

I had a few (regular oreos) myself just to confirm what another goon said earlier - that's they're sickly sweet. I still like them. I really do miss the Prinzenrolle cookies posted earlier. I think some Euroshops sell them around here. We have a fairly significant Eastern Europeana/Russian immigrant population here and they run a few shops. Very convenient way to catch up on the sometimes horrible, but mostly amazing snacks of my childhood.

My point was originally that imported American stuff is sweeter than local alternatives (such as the cookies in the post I responded to), to the point of being unpalatable, but ok, i guess not liking particular industrial food products makes me a loving monster who can't handle the real delicate flavor of pure corn syrup. And to think i thought there could be other flavor components of ice cream and confectionery than undiluted sweetness and greasiness. steinrokkan has a new favorite as of 08:27 on Aug 12, 2016 |

But, if pre packaged sandwich cookies actually make you physically ill and they weren't contaminated or you don't have some sort of allergy, I don't see why you're surprised to receive some harrassment from people on the Internet. Unless "literally sick" means something else in your part of the world.

To be fair, I don't buy the $1 sardines (king oscars), so I probably won't end up making that mistake. I'm sure the cheapo sardines taste better than my swedish fish, unfortunately.

It's garlic, salt, parsley, etc. The snails themselves are canned and on a higher shelf. There's M'Lord brand and also Store Brand. Why pay extra for name brand snails?
