No no, I don't mean a literal Brexit by USA voters. I mean disaster wrought by anti-establishment reactionaries, not specifically white supremacism or succession.

There's a significant population of Brexit and Trump/Bernie supporters who weren't espousing a policy position, they were just saying "the institution is rigged and I hate it". That hasn't gone away just because Trump is a clown. It'll resurface when we have a debt ceiling vote or something. When elites are warning about the disaster, the hoi polloi will be shouting "let's try it, you were wrong about NAFTA, you're wrong about this". Although they might come up with something catchier.

Edit: and if anyone figures out how to be anti-establishment without being a racist about it, we're proper hosed.

I didn't think you meant a literal Brexit either. What I'm saying, though, is that the forces pushing Brexit didn't get stronger because politicians ignored them, they were strengthened because politicians enabled them. In Britain, we saw that those forces were powerful enough to pass a disastrous referendum. We see a similar theme in the Tea Party. Our right-wing populists didn't win because the Republican establishment ignored them, they won because they were encouraged by the establishment up until they started ripping apart anything they saw as functional governance.

In the current situation, they are powerful enough to nominate Donald Trump (in large part because of the electoral gains they made in the Tea Party wave), but apparently not powerful enough to elect him. I don't see how losing will make them stronger. They won't go away, obviously, but the spirit of moderation that animates America is sometimes a good thing.

Though I suppose there is also self-interest, since those sorts always come for us Jews at some point anyway.

Seriously though, I have no idea what Trump is going to do. Every media organization in America is going to say that Trump lost and Hillary won. It's going to be absolutely everywhere and it's not like all of the 35% or whatever of voters that he'll carry will believe it's some liberal conspiracy. He'll be desperate for supply on top of the absolute best poo poo he'd been getting on the campaign trail so maybe he just explodes.

“Everyone wants so desperately to believe he’s Hitler 2.0, and their warped image of him is clearly looming large at the forefront of their minds – so much so that they can’t help but attach the worst possible connotation to even vague, offhand quips like these,” said a 29-year-old Hispanic attorney from Florida, referring to his second amendment comments.

An Indian American attorney, who describes his wealth as being in the top 1%, says he doesn’t care about the to-and-fros between Trump and Clinton or even Trump and his own party. “All of the controversies to me are inconsequential. The economy is terrible, the job situation has not materially improved, and illegal immigration and national security will get even worse moving forward. Regardless of what Trump may say and how he gets characterized, his focus is on the right things,” he wrote.
