Could explain it for me at least, though it doesn't make it any less annoying when wannabe pro players scream it over voice in my rank 60-65 games because they saw someone streaming do it.

Yeah its a competitive thing, you wouldn't hear it in normal play since that level of calling out is useless when everyone can barely aim as it is. But since even quick match is Tryhard Tuesday Every Day now people want to say that they are contributing by hitting Mercy for twenty damage

I'm actually going the rough and reading a lot of the fine print. There is no standard for community behavior in game that I can find. It just seems that its set to automatically suspend someone if enough people report for whatever reason. If you click the link for End User LIcense Agreement it lays out nothing and seems very similar to the early LoL rules where they just suspend/silence based on volume rather than behavior. Pretty crumby for a game where the salt is REAL.

I find it hard to believe a Mercy pick will consistently lose you games in the 50s, even in the 60s.

The problem is there's two different kinds of characters people are talking about when they're using the words "dumpster tier" and it's fogging everything up. There's characters that are that low because the high end competitive meta has moved away from them, like Pharah and Mercy, and there's characters that are legitimately weak as gently caress like Hanzo, Bastion, and Mei. That first class of characters is completely fine to play up until very high ranks. But if you're playing Hanzo and Mei in low level competitive the first, most impactful thing you can do to improve your rank is to Stop Playing Bad Characters.

So if I want to go support and I can't aim for poo poo/have horrible ping (which makes me playing Ana a liability) I should just go Lucio?

I have a bunch of hours in Mercy, but lately I've been feeling I'm not doing terribly well with her; not sure if it's just confirmation bias on my part after reading a bunch of people saying she's not that good nowadays, or if people are getting better at murdering supports outright.

I play Mercy at 57-60 and she's still extremely good. Most of the tier lists people like to pass around don't matter for the typical level of players.

i leave the thread for two weeks and no patches and suddenly pharah goes from god tier to dumpster tier?? I still do pretty well with her but yeah it can be rough if the hitscan on the other team is good. But on a lot of maps you can still dominate even when that's the case. It seems every other round I get an imitation pharah from the other team halfway through. Someone give me a new character to try main-ing pls.

God forbid I expand my horizons and actually learn to play more than one character at a time!

the characters I "can play" (am really pretty poor with most besides pharah)

pharah

lucio

Winston and Reinhardt are better can't aim characters than lucio. I got a lot better at aiming practicing in the training range. Leading headshots as lucio helps the team more than you'd think after it all adds up.

Try D.Va. She's fun and good, especially if you solo queue and your team mates have tunnel vision since you can immediately fly to some sneaky flanker to have some words. For advanced tactics, remember that rocket boosting into an enemy does damage and also bumps them around a bit. Eat hitscan and projectile ults with your defense matrix. Especially funny when Reaper wants to show you his ballet moves. I just want to dress him up with a frilly pink tutu every time he does that.

Speaking of, new legendary Reaper skin, Blizzard.

Mercy is such an odd character for me. Either I can't get to anyone in time and keep getting picked off over and over, or I manage to zip around the map from person to person, constantly dodging death and keeping all my people alive. Sometimes I manage to be both within the same match.

I also just now finally got a Mercy PotG but it was also kind of embarrassing because you could clearly see I was waiting for more people to die before rezing.

How do these escort missions work? The enemy ran out of time when they were only 20% from the last checkpoint and then the game went into overtime for something like two minutes until they won?

I think your Mercy game is just fine, but Lucio is amazing. I think it comes down to Mercy being incredibly easy to focus on. Lucio not so much, especially on levels where he can infinitely skate around the top/center of the control point (Lijiang Garden, Ilios Lighthouse, etc.). It also doesn't help that as Mercy you often have to be right in the action, as the beam range is super short compared to Lucio's range.

"Tilted" goes back further than videogames. It's a poker thing.

I never heard the expression "lit" until like two weeks ago, but complaining about it is dumb because it's incredibly useful to have a single-syllable way to express "that guy's almost dead, shoot him!"

I'm assuming you're talking about payload.

if there's someone from offense on the PL when the timer ticks down to zero, then overtime begins. If you are on defense you are trying to kill or remove the offense from the payload and keep them off until the overtime clock ticks down. If they stay on it all the way to the end they win.

Also what is with Widowmakers character design? I have no doubt that she is the top hero on rule 34 but she looks so ridiculously alien somehow. She's something like 75% legs and while other characters are humans with exaggerated features she looks like a difference species all together.

I've been saying lit to refer to someone being heavily damaged since at least TFC way back in like 2000. "Zarya's lit" is much quicker and concise than saying "Zarya is almost dead"

Neither of you are completely correct.

Many (maybe even most) of the "bad" characters are there not because their power level is astronomically lower, but because another hero fills the same role, but better in every way that matters, even if only by a small margin. It absolutely does matter, even at a middling level of play, and it's very easy to imagine a game lost because you picked Mercy instead of Lucio or Zenyatta -- if no one else stops a Genji ult rampage and your support is Zenyatta with his ult vs. Mercy with her ult, that's the difference between a team wipe and nobody dying. (Nevermind the more likely scenario of Zen with his ult and Mercy with 70% percent of her ult.)

But like most things that affect rank, it's something that will cause you to win or lose, like, one game in ten, or one game in twenty. So you don't see it constantly, but at the same time, you're giving up a free advantage.

Nah. Some days I just find I can't get into the groove with the team, because their positioning isn't compatible with Mercy or I'm just having a funk. If I get into that I go to quickmatch or play a different role. I used to switch to a different healer but it never seems to go better.

This is definitely true, but I also run into a ton of games where I've been playing Zen or Lucio, get killed first, and run back to a perfect res opportunity, or fuckup a team fight due to a lacking single target heal. I've also lost games when key people break LOS before I could Lucio shield or Transcendence, but that I could blame more on my communication. I can totally see why Mercy is lower tier, but I don't see how at my level Zen or Lucio will greatly increase my win rate overall.

There's also kind of a factor where until you get good at aiming orbs / knowing when and how often to be on speed boost, etc, you won't actually be more effective with a new hero than one you're already familiar with. However, there's only one way to fix that. :v:
