The Dems loving throw the softest of softballs and all the clowns show up for the one to get the dong (official MLB term for Home Run, ahoy!). Instead, they put up a guy who somehow manages to not only have a sub-100 BA, but loving dopes.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say this may not have been the best time to go get a selfie with Putin's girlfriend a few weeks after you just introduced your Dad to the American people, and the fact that your Dad's key advisor is a Russian-financed stooge would really suggest that all optics to that effect should be avoided.

What is even the play here!? Manafort has spent months consolidating his power in the campaign Game of Thrones style. He's not a "for the greater good" Tad Devine type - if things go south he might abandon ship but he certainly won't take any blame with him.

This crushes any positive news cycle from what would promise to be a farce of a foreign policy speech. Trump's skewering of the media looks even more defensive now to all but his most hardened boosters (especially since he'd have advance warning of this story since they contacted Manafort on it, making his media rant look even more political).

As a political junkie I honestly don't know what the hell the Trump campaign should do... Is there any action that doesn't dig them further under??

It looks like they're going to be revoking the credentials of the NYT once they run the Manafort story

So much for the "big tent".

I don't have twitter please someone tweeth "Longing. Rusted. Seventeen. Daybreak. Furnace. Nine. Benign. Homecoming. One. Freight car." at Manafort TIA

If this story stopped dead right now, it would still completely dominate tomorrow's cycle and maybe Tuesday.

But they're saying more is to come, and the level of citation and info in this piece tells me that there's more to come. That could eat up a week or so, and that's supposing Trump just pretends it doesn't exist. It'll also exacerbate his terrible polling and thicken the blood in the water, creating a vicious cycle that even good debate performances(lol) may not correct.

What I'm saying is that tomorrow we should be on high-alert for Donald pulling one of his "conceal one scandal by creating another" things. I don't quite know what would suffice here, but I'm eager to see the attempt.

A competent candidate would get rid of Manafort and use this as a pivoting point. Come out strong against Russia, reaffirm support for NATO, tie defense of America's allies to securing national interests, "securing border" message.
