Labour isn't going to get anywhere if they don't radically change to fit somewhere and it isn't going to happen with the Blairites around doing their usual as the Scottish Tories have taken the liberial-small c conservative/rural area vote from both SNP & Labour because of the failings of Scottish Labour. Nothing that interesting today; just a mix of the parochial and the relatively trivial.

The National continues its attempts to mimic the Mail by attacking social services, albeit from a pseudo leftist/progressive POV. Much like the Mail it's also atrocious journalism, which by either stupidity or spite completely misrepresents the situation. Social Work don't have a bank of spare homes they can house families in. They DO have access to potential emergency foster carers who can take in children. They also have a legal responsibility to protect the child's welfare, which is why a child MAY (not definitely) go into care in a case of homelessness. None of which is apparent from the article. gently caress The National.

The Legacy Continues

quote:

A group of independence campaigners who set up camp outside the Scottish Parliament have lodged an appeal against a court ruling in favour of their eviction. The Indycamp group set up outside Holyrood in November 2015 and pledged to stay until Scotland gained independence, sparking a seven-month court battle as the parliament's corporate body sought eviction.

Judge Lord Turnbull ruled in favour of the parliament last month and granted their petition to have the campers evicted. The group lodged an appeal against his ruling at the Court of Session on Tuesday.

In a written judgement published on July 27, Lord Turnbull found the ruling against the campaigners would not ''deprive them of the essence'' of their human rights. The campaigners had argued at the Court of Session in Edinburgh that eviction would infringe their rights to freedom of expression and freedom of assembly and association.

Gerry Moynihan QC, representing the Scottish Parliament, had argued the group had a right to protest but not to occupy land belonging to a third party either permanently or indeterminately. He said the camp interfered with the functioning of parliament and the right of others to use the grounds as well as damaging the land.

Groups of campaigners put forward several arguments against eviction including claiming Jesus Christ had given permission for the camp and claiming all judges were criminals and should be executed, along with the Queen. Advocate Jamie Gardner, representing some members of the camp, claimed the continuous nature and location of the protest was of its ''essence''.

Others argued that eviction would be disproportionate because they peacefully occupy a small space on the grounds and do not interfere with the rights of others.Lord Turnbull ruled against these claims.

The campaigners had until August 17 to appeal against the decision.A hearing has not yet been fixed for the appeal.

Aye, I've got tickets for it tomorrow night. The video for it looked amazing. Drinkswise it is pretty shite in the city centre, even in the Gilded Balloon's student bar you're looking at a good £11 for a round of just 2 drinks.

If the weather's still nice, i'd suggest just getting a carryout from a supermarket and chilling in the gardens or the meadows before going to a show. I'd also recommend the battle of the superheros free show at midday in the Three Sisters. It's comped by a couple of guys that really know their poo poo and how to be funny.
