Is GWS over that idiot hipster phase where people were trying to outdo themselves on artisinal hand crafted ingredients .... I wanted to type out a sarcastic post where a goon makes the worlds most complicated peanut butter and jelly sandwich but that just reminds me of GWS.

Who remembers the thread where some goon found out the reason his internet was lagging was due to his neighbor stealing his cable? He took matters into his own hand and fashioned a coaxial killer. Which was a cable adapter hooked up to a plug. He used it to zap the bootleg cable line.

She was asian and cute and being in a wheelchair brought out these protective instincts in me. My thread about her blew up and was really popular and it made me super uncomfortable having goons always asking about her in that thread and completely un-related threads. So I lied and said we weren't together anymore. so now everyone has to remember it too

Ghostlight posted:I miss that thread, and WebDog getting probated/banned (I forget which) for stalking Buckley's mom's Facebook. You have to remember by the time I got stuck into Buckley he'd well and truly become the laughing stock of the internet. 4Chan had already done the rounds by calling up his parents. Other people went the whole hog and drove past his place and dig up financial info. I just read his comic's newsposts and did a character study. Goddess Wushu was a great one. She started off with an innocuous thread where she asked "is my credit card being hacked" and people pointed out it was likely her fiancée, who she vehemently denied. So someone plugged her username into google and discovered this fiancée was in his 50's and her around 20 or so. She pretty much was the bread winner while he lived in his own slovenly filth watching anime into the wee hours and having to be woken up at 3pm by her. He had a post where he wrote about finding a seed embedded into the folds of his skin. And then came their blogs detailing their food adventures where they just kept on visiting fast food places while shopping to "get energy" all the while he's having severe health issues from diabetes. 50 Foot Ant was quite a character. Behind it all he's a slightly unhinged individual who wants to be a successful writer and has written a few typical zombie/scifi fantasy things via vanity press. I think he saw his life as unfulfilled so took on a Walter Mitty vibe by concocting he was burnt at a deadly airshow crash in Germany during the 80's, despite showing off his body where it was pretty clear he hadn't been doused in jet fuel at all. Humper Monkey was born out of this want to have an actually interesting military career and the stories of alpha-male tough guy ex-mil who gave his insane Dragon Ball Z addicted bastard child son a hiding clicked with young impressionable goons.

Veskit posted:Did you check out the chicken cheese thread? http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3498320 Shockingly, GWS regulars can be funny human beings when not drinking themselves to death because they work the restaurant biz. GWS, like PI and GIP, are a large majority of rational, reasonable people who are fully aware of the batshit insanity that is their life and roll with it, then see crazy as gently caress people like rooster death hadoken, groverhaus, that one GiP dude who was super homophobic and all PTSD and turned out to be a faker who was loving a tranny webcam porn model, and sometimes try to stop it but most times just drink more because they personally know people exactly like that.

The Boston Marathon bomber thread was heartbreaking and scary to read as it unfolded. So many goons were following the police scanners and reporting faster than any mainstream news. Shadow over Vegas was also exciting and at times hilarious as stranger and stranger details emerged. What happened with that? Did anyone write the little guy in jail?

I remember a couple good ones from 07-8? - Brian, the Awful Roommate. He wrote fanfiction about wanting to bone anime robot girls and shat on OP's toilet seat. - Some goon locked himself in his office to hide from his pegging-happy wife and her strapon, with which he ended up taking a road trip to Mexico. I think the whole thing turned out to be fictional, but still entertaining

cloven hoof posted:The Boston Marathon bomber thread was heartbreaking and scary to read as it unfolded. So many goons were following the police scanners and reporting faster than any mainstream news. The reason that thread was scary was because there were 1000+ internet detectives hounding people on social media and it took them many false positives to get the right guy. Interfering with a giant investigation like that was very stupid and it could have allowed the culprit to escape. I brought this up to them at the time, but the general consensus was "we're doing this to save lives and people are already dead and how dare you". Emotion really trumped reason that time. Not to mention a bunch of goons posting personal information of people who turned out to be innocent. That was just too much. And later on the consensus became "ah well, poo poo happens." gently caress internet detectives. phasmid has a new favorite as of 18:05 on Aug 17, 2016 |

Rupert Buttermilk posted:I hate that poo poo so much. Me too, but OTOH I actually enjoy going back and reading goons live reactions to shows, so I convince myself to anyways. Ditto for Gameday threads if something crazy happens. I also like reading people's immediate reaction to shows before they have a chance to get too echo-chamber-y. For me the problem is usually that I miss something on the show because I was typing a stupid forums post instead which is the reason I don't do it too often (even though I support it in theory).
