As long as there are millions and billions to make illegally the violence won't end. Unless the gangs solidify into larger groups and divide up territory in a truce. Weekends are getting worse, 52 shot: Pace of gun violence in Chicago remains high over another weekend More than 50 people were shot over another violent weekend in Chicago, a level of violence that has marked many of the summer weekends this year and has pushed the total number of people shot in the city to more than 2,600. The number of people shot during all of last year was 2,988. Between Friday evening and early Monday morning, at least 52 were shot and nine of them were killed, according to police. The weekend before, 49 people were shot, nine of them fatally. And the weekend before that, 52 people were shot, seven of them fatally. The month of July saw 65 fatal shootings, the most for a July in the city since 2006. Last Monday nine people were shot to death, the deadliest day in Chicago since 2003. The deadliest period over this past weekend was between Saturday afternoon and early Sunday when five people were killed and at least 19 others were wounded. http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/ct-chicago-weekend-shootings-20160815-story.html Here is something from a related story, 40 Of Weekend's Shooting Victims Had Been Arrested 672 Times, Top Cop Says Of the 52 people shot between Friday morning and Sunday night, police said, 40 had prior contact with police. Together, they had 672 arrests on their records. Johnson singled out Anthony Nelson, who was shot to death in Park Manor Sunday morning, saying he had been arrested 13 times. In March 2015, Nelson was sentenced to six months of probation after being charged with unlawful use of a weapon, police said. "These gun offenders don't care. They could care less if it's an 80-year-old grandmother or a 5-year-old child out there," Johnson said. And that's our fault. Because we have constantly shown that we are not going to hold them accountable. "CPD is arresting them. We need our legislative and judicial partners to help hold these individuals accountable," he added. "Kids getting shot out there is just stupid." https://www.dnainfo.com/chicago/20160815/bronzeville/40-of-weekends-shooting-victims-had-been-arrested-672-times-top-cop-says

I'm going to Chicago next month with my girlfriend and I'm looking for an Airbnb to rent for a few days before her corporate hotel room is open. I know nothing about Chicago. Where can I stay that's cool and also which parts of the city are the horrible death zones?

Parts of the south and west side are scary areas, but most of the rest of the city is perfectly fine. And even then, 90% of the people getting shot in Chicago, or any US city, are people who are involved in drugs, gangs, and other sketchy poo poo. You could move into the worst ghetto in pretty much any city, and if you're a white yuppie fart-tester who minds your own business, you're probably at worst gonna get some mean looks/comments, or get your car broken into, or maybe get robbed. Half the time people will think you're a cop or there to buy drugs.

Ukrainian Village, Bucktown, Logan Square on Milwaukee, Noble Square. Any of those will be cheap and are good neighborhoods that will be pretty cheap to stay in. Not to mention they're all packed with restaurants and bars. Lincoln Park, Gold Coast, Boys Town, and Andersonville are gonna be more expensive but are also safe and have a ton of poo poo to do in the neighborhoods. Basicallly avoid the southside, Humboldt Park (nowhere will say Humnboldt, so just avoid anything between Western and Cicero and North and Chicago). That should keep you in the clear. Gold Coast is great. You can go to a check cashing store and in two blocks be at a Bentley dealership. Or if you only walk another two blocks at nice little restaurant and mini park area where you can watch wealthy older men woo women younger than their grandchildren.

Mostly I think we would spend most of that time having sex and then walking out of the room to get food and booze, so I was hoping to stay in a nice, livable neighborhood without too much of the tourist stuff.

Thanks, guys! Now my problem is that Airbnb rates in Chicago are stupidly high, after fees, deposits and a substantial state tax. Hotel rooms seem similarly expensive... I didn't know that Chicago was such a pricey town!

Chicagos lovely violence has spread a lot. I live down by Galesburg and with the recent uptick in chicago transplants there has been a massive uptick in violent crime and murders. Galesburg was never a great place, but it has gotten exponentially shittier in the past couple years. They constantly have to patrol the railroad station with dogs and geared up cops ready to rumble.

Theres so many meth heads and gang bangers around town now that even Lake Storey has been having murders and robberies going on and most of the buildings around town are starting to crumble and fall over. The mall has like 2 stores in it, and its so worthless the owners just sold it for 300,000. Most of the big name retail stores have moved to the outskirts of town right off the insterstate exits away from residential areas.

Autopsy: Paul O'Neal fatally shot by police in back Paul O'Neal, the black teen fatally shot last month by Chicago police in a controversial incident captured in part on video, sustained a single gunshot wound to the right side of his back, the Cook County medical examiner's office determined in an autopsy made public Wednesday. Toxicological testing found no drugs in O'Neal's system, according to the autopsy report. The medical examiner's report repeated claims that an officer believed O'Neal may have fired shots during the chase. The officer, "believing the shots being fired we're coming from O'Neal fired his Glock 9 mm handgun five times in an attempt to stop the threat," striking O'Neal, the report said. Authorities have said that O'Neal was unarmed. Acting with unusual swiftness a little more than a week after the shooting, city officials released nine video clips from police dashboard and body cameras that showed apparent procedural errors by three officers who opened fire at O'Neal, 18, as he fled July 28 in a reportedly stolen Jaguar and then on foot. Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson moved quickly to strip the three of their powers, citing potential policy violations. The Independent Police Review Authority declined to give the officers' names in response to a Freedom of Information Act request by the Tribune, releasing a document last week with the officers' names blacked out. The agency cited, among other parts of state records law, a clause that allows an agency to withhold information if disclosure would "endanger the life or physical safety of law enforcement personnel or any other person." http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/ct-paul-oneal-autopsy-20160817-story.html Videos capture dramatic police shootout with carjacking suspect For the second time in less than two weeks, the city moved quickly Wednesday to release video footage of a police-involved shooting — this time of officers opening fire on a carjacking suspect after he shot into a police cruiser, police said. Unlike the videos released Aug. 5 of the fatal shooting of an unarmed 18-year-old suspect that highlighted potential training deficiencies, the footage of the shooting Tuesday night in the Roseland neighborhood spotlighted the dangers police face, Superintendent Eddie Johnson told reporters Wednesday at police headquarters. "These police officers face this kind of thing every single day," Johnson said. "Law enforcement all over the country right now is being scrutinized for everything that they do. But yet, these officers didn't go away from this. They ran to it." Audio and video from dashboard cameras captured the dramatic pursuit Tuesday night of the vehicle that police said had been stolen earlier in the day. The chase escalated after the suspect extended an arm out the driver's window. Shots could then be heard, and a flash of light appeared. http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/ct-chicago-police-officer-shot-video-met-20160817-story.html Lime Tonics fucked around with this message at 05:02 on Aug 18, 2016 |

Cops in Chicago are bad shots. Chicago police shootings: data reveals 92 deaths and 2,623 bullets fired There were 435 officer-involved shootings in city from 2010 through 2015 Findings show about four out of every five people shot were black males After threatening to sue the city’s police department, the Chicago Tribune has obtained official data tracking every time an officer has opened fire in the city over the past six years. The vast majority of those shot, the newspaper found, were black men or boys. According to the data, there were 435 police shootings in Chicago from 2010 through 2015, in which officers killed 92 people and wounded 170. In all, officers fired 2,623 bullets. “While a few of those incidents captured widespread attention,” the paper wrote, “they occurred with such brutal regularity – and with scant information provided by police – that most have escaped public scrutiny.” https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2016/aug/27/chicago-police-shootings-deaths-tracking-data More of the same, http://chicago.suntimes.com/news/4-dead-16-wounded-in-chicago-weekend-shootings/ Labor day weekend is soon, stay safe.
