I can't talk about the plot or characterizations but the game is legitimately fun and the character grew on me thanks to the excellent voice acting and animations  Isn't she adorable? That reminds me when I bought a VHS of an anime about a dude who builds a robot and it's kind of about relationships and trippy visuals and poo poo but the box is like SEX loving! SLUT ROBOT SEXXORS!! trying to make it out to be total porno. I think maybe it had a boob or two in it?

I remember one company had a preview of one (Wicked City I think?) which in the first minute had nudity, banging, a guy getting his head exploded by a demon lady and then the army busting in and blowing poo poo up. It was always funny going in to rent a video and a week or so later seeing a "MUST BE 17 OR OLDER TO RENT" sticker on it afterwards. I dunno if it was just the trend at the time but most of the anime that was in the rental places was tits, explosions, or both.

In the 90s there was this thing called the OVA boom in the anime industry, which was basically one hour long short films. A lot of them were mediocre, but they were only an hour long and didn't have much pedigree or push behind them, so they were really cheap to license for american distributors. Naturally, the stuff that was more grindhouse-y, like sci-fi, violent action, or horror, were more popular in the west, so american distributors licensed more and more of that stuff and less of anything else, which led to japanese animation studios pumping out cheap schlock in that vein in order to make some quick licensing bucks on the side. Then the whole thing fell in on itself and nobody makes OVAs anymore.
