Labour isn't going to get anywhere if they don't radically change to fit somewhere and it isn't going to happen with the Blairites around doing their usual as the Scottish Tories have taken the liberial-small c conservative/rural area vote from both SNP & Labour because of the failings of Scottish Labour. (That and Ruth Davidson is a gift to the Scottish Tories, I imagine if she were removed from the picture they wouldn't of achieved as much success as they would of liked.)

Tuesday's front pagesquote:Front pages: Stories making headlines in Scotland on Tuesday Nothing that interesting today; just a mix of the parochial and the relatively trivial. The National continues its attempts to mimic the Mail by attacking social services, albeit from a pseudo leftist/progressive POV. Much like the Mail it's also atrocious journalism, which by either stupidity or spite completely misrepresents the situation. Social Work don't have a bank of spare homes they can house families in. They DO have access to potential emergency foster carers who can take in children. They also have a legal responsibility to protect the child's welfare, which is why a child MAY (not definitely) go into care in a case of homelessness. None of which is apparent from the article. gently caress The National.

I've only read the National once (someone left it on the train and I was bored) and it was awful; it's doing the mail thing of pretending to be a respectable newspaper while selling tabloid crap. I'm going to try and get in to Edinburgh relatively early on Saturday to have a little wander and maybe see some free poo poo I heard about; if anyone wants to join in then feel free.

The Legacy Continuesquote:A group of independence campaigners who set up camp outside the Scottish Parliament have lodged an appeal against a court ruling in favour of their eviction. The Indycamp group set up outside Holyrood in November 2015 and pledged to stay until Scotland gained independence, sparking a seven-month court battle as the parliament's corporate body sought eviction.

Drinkswise it is pretty shite in the city centre, even in the Gilded Balloon's student bar you're looking at a good £11 for a round of just 2 drinks. If the weather's still nice, i'd suggest just getting a carryout from a supermarket and chilling in the gardens or the meadows before going to a show. I'd also recommend the battle of the superheros free show at midday in the Three Sisters. It's comped by a couple of guys that really know their poo poo and how to be funny.

Front pages: Stories making headlines in Scotland on Thursday quote:The Scottish Sun reports on claims that police are being told not to pursue drug dealers amid cost-cutting. I've no idea if the SNP's drug policy is "soft touch" - frankly I wasn't even aware they had a drugs policy, but fair play if it is. And police Scotland in a not-making-awful-decisions shocker. Pity tabloids don't see it that way. The daily dose of 'Christ, the national really is awful, isn't it?' is pretty bland today, going with tried and tested "just print the government's press release"

The Scottish government doesn't have a drugs policy. It's reserved to Westminster. Though I'm surprised to see them being accused of being soft touch as the SNP leadership is annoyingly conservative when it comes to things like decriminalisation.

You don't need me to state the latest, biggest example of voter stupidity. Also if EU Nationals vote Yes because they know that they would rather prefer Scotland being in the EU over the UK. It isn't because of 'exploiting' them; it's because they loving know that the rest of the UK (minus NI) wanted and voted to leave the European Union.

It's at the point where Brewdog is the most reasonably priced place for a pint. The Cowgate has a few cheapish places, but since it's Saturday they'll all be hoaching. Further afield things can be more sane, guideline being if you're off the tourist drag prices aren't as . Haven't checked any old man pubs, will do so. Of note while you're all out that way, if you're looking for decent lunch, hit up The Red Box Noodle Bar next to the Pear Tree (near the teviot) for awesome (and cheap) stirfry goodness. For deli stuff, Wolfits on Rose Street is the place I've never seen beaten, though that's a bit of a trek away from where the shows are. You might get a more decently priced drink around that end of the town though.
