JaggerMcDagger posted:But I do have a new addition to my lineup! You know, I had considered that comic as one I'd post for all the same reasons. Then I figured by that reasoning I should be posting The Duplex too, and that was more than I wanted to commit to. They're mostly bland but ugly strips, so outside the context of the McCoys being rampant shitheads they're not very interesting.

SomeMathGuy posted:It will never cease to impress me that, on paper, Anne Gibbons and I probably agree on quite a few issues, and yet I always find her contributions to Six Chix utterly insufferable. Maybe it's because her attempts at "political commentary" consist of toothless and yet self-righteous observations, like in this strip where I'm supposed to believe there are people who haven't heard of the Green Party despite it being perhaps the most well-known third party in the country? Maybe it's because the other five contributors are so routinely apolitical I find the intrusion unpleasant? It's the damnedest thing. It's probably because this is the closest thing to a joke she's ever had in her political strips. All the others are just a character with a smug smirk looking at the reader and listlessly intoning one of the author's political opinions. I mean, look at this poo poo:

It's Wilson's last strip, if anything it's a sign of considerable restraint after 25 years of writing the thing. Or, as per the sour grapes theory, he wants Marciuliano to be hit by complaints e: be ready for my new comic strip, Heavenly Tits

Months and months of buildup, or rather aimless exposition, and the first dramatic moment is handled in a few "bare essentials" panels that may as well be a loss edit.

I absolutely love how no one's working on the badly injured car accident victim, they just transferred her from the ambulance to a regular hospital bed and went "nothing more we can do for her, or her unborn child." Allen and Vorderbrug: when they talk about making someone comfortable in their final moments, they don't mean putting a blanket on them and raising the bed.

I'm wondering if it'll take more or less strips for a new love interest to show up than it did for the wife to die. If we ignore that dream girl.
