I remember Spore as being the very last PC game I bought in a real store, and even then I thought it was unusual to do so. Then I never really made it that far. I only would ever make it to the tribal stage then get bored.

Rollout doubles (!!) in power each turn, bringing it to do 480 base damage at the 5th turn (60% chance for it to go 5 turns). Azumarill also can have the Huge Power ability, which doubles its attack passively. So, Filburt took the equivalent of at least 3 Hyper Beams (150 base dmg) at once from that shithead pikablu

well why not posted:any professor oaks out there wanna explain how roll out is so deadly? Rollout is a Normal-type move that doubles in power every turn as long as it hits. It starts at 30 power (which is very, very low - Scratch, for instance, is 40 power and is a default move most starters know) and doubles up to five times or if it is interrupted in some way, whichever comes first. So it starts at 30, then is 60, then is 120, then is 240, and the final hit is 480 power. In comparison, Hyper Beam - a move you might've heard of and is one of the strongest base Normal type moves in the game - is a 150 power attack. So that's how insanely powerful Rollout can get if left unchecked like Griffin did. It's really easy to prevent and, ironically, Griffin had the easiest possible way to reset Rollout on his team that he just didn't use, but yeah. Rollout can be monstrous if not managed correctly.

well why not posted:any professor oaks out there wanna explain how roll out is so deadly? People have compared it to hyper beam, which is okay since that's a move that most people have heard of, but I think a more fun thing to compare rollout to is Explosion. Explosion is a move that does exactly what it says, it makes your pokemon explode, killing it in exchange for dealing massive damage to your pokemon. Explosion's base power is 250. This is a slightly inaccurate number, because it used to also treat the defense of the opposing pokemon as if it were halved, giving it an effective power of 500. This was changed in Black and White (the games before X and Y), but the move was never buffed higher to contemplate. Regardless, when rollout was first introduced it "topped off" as a move that is slightly less powerful than exploding and killing yourself. Nowadays, it's twice as strong as that move. Rollout is also a rock type move, which means that it's basically infinitely better offensively than a normal type move, being resisted by more types but having no type be immune to it and having 4 types that it's strong against. Not relevant to the video, but fun to know, is that if you use the move defense curl before using rollout, it doubles the power of the move, making it start at 60 power and top out at 960, higher than any other move in the game. And, as someone said, Azumarill is a fully evolved pokemon that will (50% of the time, or 100% when fighting against real people) have its attack doubled by its ability, which actually means that on average its base attack stat is somewhere around 110 because of weird poo poo that makes stats bigger. That's a big attack! Azumarill is also Water/Fairy, which is a really good defensive type which means it's only weak against grass, poison and electric type attacks, and it has a huge amount of HP and decent defenses. Basically, Azumarill is an already good, fully-evolved pokemon against griffin's team of babies and middle evos and griffin had no way to hit it super-effectively, and he has a tendency to ignore status and stat-changing moves that could have made that fight much more bearable.

Doin my own X Locke right now and it's loving heartbreaking I keep losing them to such stupid poo poo on my end. I'm currently resisting the urge to use exp all but now that I'm on my third stringers I'm strongly considering using it to not have to endlessly grind to get them up to speed. I finally understand sports fans now because I was screaming at my TV that whole time. There were so many things he could have done to nip that Rollout in the bud before it powered up to a fifth turn. At that point with his team and the restriction of not using items in battle he was 100% sending someone to their death. He's got so many rules and restrictions to add challenge and his only real defense against that is being over-leveled but he won't stop to grind his new recruits up either.

If he did all that, though, he'd never lose any of his guys and it wouldn't be all that much fun to watch. Possibly it bothers me less because I've never played a Pokemon game, though.

If he's not going to over level his pokes, he should maybe do a bit more research into the rabbit hole of Pokemon battling and type advantages and advantageous moves and all the things I never learned because I overleveled 1-3 dudes to an absurd degree every generation.

TBH I do think that X and Y should give you the old EXP share in addition to the new one to give you more control over the difficulty of the game and the way you want to play. The old one where it's a held item that affects one pokemon at a time would be much better for griffin since he's only rotating in one or two new guys at a time whereas the new one was designed mostly to either make the game easier or make it possible to play like I did, with a rotating roster of literally 20 pokemon who were all 2-3 levels lower than the trainers in a given area/gym (which is the most fun way to play, imo, but people have their preferences)
