There's some potential with Josef Bugman or Prince Ulther to have an entirely grudge-based campaign and starting on the western fringes of the Empire, but they both only command single units of dwarfs.

It was always from the very beginning going to be Empire/VC, Orks/Dwarfs, and Chaos. Bretonnia wasn't even mentioned, outside of them basically saying it'd be the freeLC and they spent some of their time after Gold loving around with fleshing them out a bit. This whole game is built around pairs. Empire has the VC, Dwarfs have the Orks, Chaos is anti everyone. Had Bretonnia been in at launch, it'd still have been "incomplete" because they would have had nobody to pair against. Without the Beastmen/Wood Elves they lack any real flavored questline. What would you have done, forced the various Duchies to stop infighting and then.......stand around while the Empire fought Chaos? Looked lustfully at Estalia and Tilea, wishing for the days of Beastmen/Skaven pouring into your southern regions? Gone to sea to fight Araby?

It's standard practice in all of the recent TW games to have a bunch of factions that at release are a small step above completely generic that everyone knows will be made playable through DLC later on. And since those factions get updated for everyone even if they don't buy the DLC it's win-win. The only thing unusual about Brettonia is how much work got put into them long before they were made playable, and that it's pretty much just them and not 15 other on-map factions that will get fleshed out later. Kislev, Estalia, Tilea, and the Border Princes kinda fall into the same catagory, except that it's somewhat unlikely they'll ever be made into full races just because of the constraints of the licensed game never making them real armies leaves the whole thing up in the air.

This is going to be a money train for the total war guys. Constant small dlc's just for units. Then there are the missing factions. You will have the major expansions for skaven and high elves. They still need to open up the other side of the world for the lizardmen and open up the tomb kings as well.

I think a southern realms DLC that added a few empire sub-factions with some units removed and some units added would be fine. It'd make fighting them in campaign more interesting, at least.

I'll jump on the DLC chat bandwagon: DLC's are only silly/stupid when they aren't worth the content they add. So far, I have around 130 hours into this game with the 60$ price tag + 40$ of DLCs. I paid around 70$ canadian for doom 4 which gave me around 14 hours of fun. I also pay 50$ for a cab ride downtown to drink with my friends and another 50$ for a cab ride back... this is for 4-5 hours of fun. So yes, gamers are complaining little bitches quite often.. What I think is horribly stupid is pre-ordering games for missing content. That poo poo pisses me off.

Every Empire game I play now I always gently caress up the local dwarfs that won't just loving TRADE WITH ME. Why are NPC factions so hesitant to do trade agreements anyways? It's literally a good thing for everyone. Usually they get more out of the deal than me anyways.

On the other hand, finally getting any of the Dwarfs to trade with you as Vampires is so satisfying. You've warred on their enemies while they waddled about the mountains, endured turn after turn of TALK AT ME IN YER CRUDE LANGUAGE IF YER MUST, destroyed Grimgor's hordes in apolcalyptic battles just beyond Blackfire Pass. Eastern Karaks angered by the upstart humans now roam the lowlands pillaging at will, Karl's dreams of Empire lies in ruins. It's all coming up Dwarfy. And then one turn they propose a weary acceptance of a trade deal worth 200 gold, tops.

One thing you can do to butter up factions to make deals with you is a lot of gifts. The relation boost from gifts stack and I think each small gift is +10 relations. It can be expensive but useful to get certain allies or just non aggression pacts/trade deals.

Gitro posted:I think the AI is more reluctant to make deals with you on higher difficulties regardless of other factors. Absolutely. On a Hard Empire start, I can usually secure NAPs with neighboring factions that aren't hostile or making moves to attack me with 5 turns of meeting them. With some favor from attacking their enemies and a bit more military strength, you can get trade deals. On a VH Empire start, no-one is going to sign poo poo with you unless you go hard on their enemies or dump a lot of gold into gifts.

Beastmen is a cool and fun way to play this game without getting all stressed out. I've been attacked by two full death stacks and managed to eke out a win, so you can pretty much just stealth around and gently caress up whoever you want whenever you want. You can even fight Chaos! It'd be dope if you could ally with mankind and just do dope poo poo and dunk on Franz's enemies. It could kind of make sense lore wise in that even though these twisted abominations were cast out of human society, they still don't want some vampires or orcs to come in and gently caress up their ancestral homes. Of course, Middenheim needs to burn first but Franz isn't necessarily an absolute adversary to Beastmen. Hell, Beastmen murdering Chaos makes sense since Chaos fight among themselves so much as it is, who's to say Khazrak need to bow down to Archaon? Maybe Khazrak deserves favor from the ruinous powers? MAYBE KHAZRAK IS JUST AS PRETTY AS ARCHAON AND EVERYONE SHOULD JUST STAB ARCHAON.

You guys figure they might buff existing Legendary Lords to catch up with the new ones? Vlad's all-vanguard-all-day and Ghorst's poison-everyone aside, even Volkmar is looking OP compared to the original crew since he's got super-charged Warrior Priest buffs, chariot-level disruption like Thorgrim, and turns Flagellants into suicide bombs AND gives them missile protection.

Beastmen also style themselves as "the true children of Chaos", and will fanatically follow the will of Chaos gods with the goal of ending human civilization, even if it means enduring working together with the human "poser" chaos worshipers such as Warriors of Chaos. The very notion of order and civilization offends all beastemen, so there is no way they would ever even consider any pacts or long term peace with nations of humans, dwarfs or elves, at best they may be ok with some of the orc tribes due to their potential for more primitive savagery.
