Just been calling it the War Turtle. It's based on jokes from a group we've been calling Team Turtle for the past ten years, so the "Team Turtlemobile" will also hear play. The model is almost done - expect finished pics in a few days.

Getting ready to order the last model needed for that detachment - a Space Marine Commander on bike inspired by a lifeguard who once busted my friends and I for being too raucous at a lake. We learned our lesson and to this day refer to the lifeguard and his ATV as "the Respectmobile." This will be based on a pudgy Catachan riding a quad and pointing a powerfist finger accusingly.

Does anybody know where I can purchase a model like the one below? I can't find any online stores with these kits (or similar) except for some rather expensive ones on ebay.

These models go by the name "Void Junkers Dune Raiders" by either "I Kore," "Urban Mammoth" or "Urban War." Help much appreciated!

EDIT: Ooops, top of page? Now I feel obligated to post a current WIP shot.

I added a small tree growing on it and the final thing will have some tufts and moss/lichen to make it look like the ancient thing has been lumbering through the jungle for 200 years. Expect a final shot this weekend.

I unfortunately don't; I honestly think the handful floating around on eBay for 15 bucks a pop might be the better deal, but I've got a bunch of their minis from back in the day. They've got a nice chunky 90s aesthetic to them.

Yeah, I just bit the bullet and paid nearly $30 for the one I wanted off ebay. For that price I could have bought two GW Ravenwing bikes and smashed them together into a quad!

Oh well, I'm happy with the mini and it'll be here by next Wednesday. Cheers again for helping search.

Being better at melee than tyranids in the current edition is an abyssmally low bar. One that space marines and eldar cross with flying colors. It'd be nice for orks to be at least mediocre.

I meant to run this by you goons: I have some friends bitching about classical Mob Rule (Eldar and Tau players ). Specifically, they think it's "bullshit" that Orks are Fearless in big enough mobs, so that all their pinning and other shooting shenanigans don't effect slowdowns. From his Scatbikes, Wraithknights, and D-flamers. Apparently Fearless ++ that all Space Marines get isn't a problem, because reasons. But, lots of Ork players have legitimate complains about Mob Rule because it seldom does much for non-Boyz units without a significant investment.

So I considered a few changes to the Space 0din dex: What if Boyz weren't Fearless, but Stubborn, and/or received bonuses to combat resolution? What if their love of fighting was reflected on the tabletop by a sort of Fantasy-style frenzy wherein they'd become better at fighting, but as importantly, worse at objectives?

As it stands, if you fail an 'Ere We Go roll with a double-1, the mob will tussle with themselves (like the last codex), but that's the only drawback besides the numbers requirement.

So New Mob Rule: Stubborn if they outnumber the enemy in a melee. If not in melee, the presence of enemy units they could assault could trigger the same Frenzy, but adapted for 40k: On a LD failure, the mob gains Fearless and/or other combat bonuses (+1S?), but must pursue enemies in range of a run-and-charge. Frenzied mobs gain these boosts but lose Objective Secured, or otherwise become non-scoring units, until the target squad is eliminated.

Guardsmen are 4 points, Boyz are 6, Gaunts are 5, iirc. Guardsmen can take orders and never kill themselves en masse, setting them well apart from the other 2 they're either REALLY FIRED UP or literally eating each other.

Really super tempted to grab myself a Deathwatch force, but it's kinda hard to brainstorm a list with the sheer amount of options available. So far been considering going heavily ranged with ~2 Vet Squads with Frag Cannons and Boltguns in Drop Pods, a squad in a Rhino with Stalker Bolters and Missile Launchers for objective camping, a Not-Tyrant-Siege Terminator squad with Cyclones cruising in a Blackstar with a Termi-Armoured Libby and maybe a Dread or a Watchmaster/Captain if I can squeeze one in.

Should I maybe swap a ranged squad for some close combat Vets? I'm wary of melee Marines that aren't Wolfen/Death Company as they lack the special rules that make the aforementioned units so deadly, so they tend to get minced by any given melee specialist unit. I'm also concerned for the lack of armour, though that seems to be a thing that Deathwatch just struggle with.

I faced the Eldar player with a Dread Mob once, including a DakkaStompa (Kustom Stompa with Deth Arsenal & a Deth Kannons and coaxial GigaShoota). Didn't manage to kill his WK, though. He remarked towards the end of the game, "I've never seen anything strip wounds so fast" like he had PTSD. True to human tendency for confirmation bias, he looked blown away by how well the 700 point Stompa shot without considering his Wraithknight is more durable, more mobile, arguably deadlier, faster in melee, and for under 300 loving points. When our Tau friend remarked about the power differential between their codexes and mine, and he responded indignantly, "There's nothing wrong with my codex!" <> Taubro reminded him he had access to 50 (60?) point D-flamers.

Taubro is blind to his own book's power, obviously; he brought up the same point of "I can't shoot your dudes into being scared if you use your fandex." Again, neither has responded to "hey but Marines tho" after I brought it up.

The experimental/proposed Mob Rule, while obviously simpler than GW's poo poo-show, is still needlessly more complex than "10+ wounds is Fearless." gently caress it.

Eh. I'm pretty content with my current logo.
I just finished my Baneblade after a marathon painting sesh. It's too humid to varnish it tonight, and I'll post pictures when I get a chance to to do that.

NOVA is less than a week away. I am reaching ridiculous levels of excitement. Would anyone in the DC area like to meet up and slam some hams this weekend? My band has a show on Saturday night, but I'm free any other time. I have a car, and I'll gladly drive out to meet you if that's what it takes.

Also, are any of the NOVA Narrative Goons planning on doing the Recon Squad missions?

So, we know Kill Team is back next week, and am pretty sure its not going to be a full robust system such as HoR, do we know if Heralds of Ruin will be updated to incorporate it? For example Kill Team does not include rules for figure progression (Getting better stats) and it disallows the use of an 2+ armor saves. where HoR has both of these.

Limitations I know of are

3+ and higher armors saves only.
3 or lower wound models only
Armor limitations on vehicles, if I remember correctly its a dreadnoughts total armor.
Linked battles are in, but no figure/character progression.
All unit stats come from the Codices.
Combat is handled the same as 40k. BS and WS are unchanged (no AoS conversion)

I don't really think we can know until the HoR guys comment on it. I figure it's a coin toss since it could really go either way and they could ignore it completely and do their own thing.

X-Post gon' give it to ya:
When I went to Warhammer World back in April, I got to play in a big Heresy game. I ran my old school Ultras using Legion rules and I proxied my Armorcast Whirlwind with the rules for the Scorpius. In one round of shooting I wiped out an entire 20 man Iron Warriors tactical squad. Needless to say, I immediately went over to the Forgeworld store and picked up the real deal for my Heresy Ultras! I'm really happy with how this tank came out, aside from the slightly off kilter dozer blade that I forgot to straighten in hot water.

I also think all the checks and greco-roman trim make it look like a Greek diner on treads, which is also good.

Paint em black :)

They'll have fancy wings on them, but whatever. You can try shaving the wings off but it ain't gonna be easy.

The worst part though is you get like zero options for them. So storm bolters and powerfists for the most part, one chaingun, one power sword for the captain, and a chainfist on one.

E: actually the wings on the termies aren't too bad except the big ones on the captain which you could shave off. One other guy has a lapel wing which you could ignore or just say they're deathwing guys who joined the deathwatch because reasons. Its not the least fluffy thing ever, really.

Main thing I'm worried about is the left shoulder. Pretty hard to make that look like a Deathwatch shoulder pad.

As far as customization, I'm not too chafed about it. 5 terminators for $10 can make me look past that.

Oh I didn't even think about that. Yeah, I just took a look at my dark vengeance dudes and those shoulder-pads aren't going anywhere.

They've got the crux terminatus on them though, so you could just paint it silver and it wouldn't really be all that noticeable? Maybe even try to draw in some symbols on the sides of the crux using black paint freehand, but that'd take better artistic skills than I have.
