You know maybe the UFC just really tried to lowball Rory, but if Bellator really went all out to sign him then it was a weird decision.

"Not to mention that guy you fought who went on to do some amazing things of his own!" Just say Eddie Alvarez became UFC champ, man. There's no one watching Bellator that doesn't know what the UFC is.

All I can find quickly is they were there in 2014 and prior. Makes a little sense if they are planning on going back, which would be a good move for them anyway because Canada is such a good market for MMA. Rory is from BC and Bellator has previously only gone to Ontario but I don't know how Canadians from Ontario feel about that. Maybe they don't really care and will flock to see him anyway. I guess in the bigger picture, it's just hard to tell how much of Bellator's interest is TV ratings vs selling tickets in venues. They used to put a lot of money on people that could talk like Rampage and Tito in hopes that they could eventually get back out to PPV or something. Recently they've been poaching these one-offs like Ben Henderson and Rory with the intention of making them champions of two weight classes, which seems more like a storyline they can sell for ratings. I don't know if Bendo really puts a lot of butts in seats does he?

In the long term higher ratings mean more ad revenue and the ability to more effectively cross-promote other Viacom properties so I think that's their overall goal, but in the short term higher ticket sales mean more revenue to them directly and immediately, so it's probably not a bad thing to concentrate on for the moment when you're already getting higher ratings than anything else on Spike.

Benson has become more and more inactive the older he gets. He also hasn't improved anything at all. All his punches except his hook to the body are useless and he still doesn't move his head.

Yeah I think that's kind of what I was getting at. Rory isn't the kind of guy to cross-promote (or promote in general) stuff on television so he's going to fall in more with a short term play to sell some tickets as they try to get back into Canada but they must've had to pay him pretty decently (unless the UFC really tried to underpay him) so I'm wondering if it really makes sense. Let's say they are paying Rory 250k/fight to try to sell out a venue in an attempt to get like 1.25mil in ticket sales. After production costs, other fighters, and venue fees they can't be making that much money on that kind of deal I think.
