I have seen one good mash-up artist and he made the craziest album I have ever heard, no one else has even come close in a decade and this whole genre just comes off as some sad amateur crap as a result of this.

the post above me is a perfect example of it, its like the musical version of 1+1=2 it is so basic there is nothing worthwhile there at all.

I'm still listening to Kanye of the Stone Age. Better It Giveth is my favorite.

Isosine's 2015 mashup dropped. It's ok, but not as good as last years, which is the trend so far. I wonder how much is the music that's available for a given year.

"Bitch better have my money" and "Uptown funk" work well together.

Yeah same, a lot of the transitions are very GT and there's a heap of great samples that aren't overplayed. I really like this artist, it's good to see this sort of music still viable after what was prettymuch a hard crash a few years back. Maybe the mashup scene needs a decade between resurgences so the sample bank has time to replenish.

edit: still listening, Girl Talk vibes so hard, this is awesome.

Great background music while I'm working. Thoroughly enjoyable and very well executed.

But very little that I found really great. Anything that did hit home was never developed well.

However, I've never really appreciated artists who have a lot of stuff all in quick succession. Like girl talk. Or hood Internet. Probably because the last 8+ years of my mashup fandom had been centered around Bootie, which doesn't really play that sort of stuff. So I've been conditioned to like full mashups.

I always end up so frustrated when there is some genius combination but it only lasts like 10-15 seconds. I want the whole thing!!!

The problem is 9/10 times "the whole thing" doesn't work as well as the 15 second clip. I used to be really into this kind of stuff but it did get stale pretty fast. Have you heard any 2ManyDJs mixes? Some really good stuff there.

Yeah this. There's that one from the E603 album where he mixes Rolling In The Deep and All That She Wants. It's good for a few bars, but it keeps going and going to the point where it just starts sounding amateurish.

I think using shortened samples allows you to get a bit more eclectic. I noticed though that with All Day, Girl Talk has been letting the samples play out longer than usual.

But then I want to hear that 15 second clip more than once in the mashup.

Have the mashup have like 6 songs and explore from there. I think this is why i like Earworm so much better than the more ADD artists/producers. His tracks with many many songs will return to the same theme as needed. There's a chorus.

I just cant get into tracks that are just one short clip after another without any unifying theme or song. Part of the reason USOP 2009 works *so well* is because it has the black eyed peas underneath it the whole time. Really ties the song together

yeah, i'm a fan of the ADD types. the A vs B mashups are ok but they rarely work the entire song.

i think the good mashup artists like GT or Milkman have a good balance between too long or short for its clips along with a good transition between each of them. i remember some of the post-USOP 2009 were waaaay too ADD and never was as good as 2009
